A game that has just released will cost R350-R400 no matter where you buy it.
A game that is however 6 months old, THAT is where things turn ugly.
The article only compares very recent releases. A better comparison would have included older titles which have seen a price drop internationally [and as usual don't pull through to us locally for another 6 months] .
Basically like when Mass Effect 2 got a price drop to R100-R200 , it took 3-6 months to show up in retail stores here at that price. Steam had it at the price already, hence why i bought it there.
Also, i don't know about anyone else, but 80% of my Steam collection was specials. I don't usually buy $60 priced games from steam, unless it's simply not available locally in stores. The advantage of steam is how easy you can monitor and grab specials and save a few bucks. I haven't found it that much of an advantage on 0-day releases when the game is going at full price.
If our local distributors are not asleep and ensure games are in stores when they release internationally, then i'd normally pick the full priced releases up in store instead of Steam.
Ironically i've found quite a few times where local pricing was BETTER than on Steam. If your motto is to shop around you'll be surprised. I remember when AC2 was still going for $40 on STeam and it was like R150 in local stores...same thing is happening now with AC2:Brotherhood.
