Any of you tried the demo yet?

Basically the concept behind it is that it's a game about how you die in a zombie apocalypse. That's right folks, you're doomed from the start but that's where it gets interesting: how long can you hold out against the zombie apocalypse? How creative are you? Will you protect your wife or will you leave her behind and fend for yourself?

I think it's a marvellous idea that takes a lot from the crafting machinations of Minecraft.

I decided I'd be thoroughly supportive of this title and bought a licence for £5 (R54). It will also have multiplayer co-op <3.

Give the demo a shot at the Project Zomboid site.

Also, CAD writer Tim Buckley did a strip on it (click the pic and scroll down to read the story behind it :p):

Pirates have made a version of the game that auto-downloads Project Zomboid from our server whenever the player clicks an ‘update’ button.

Yup. Easy-peasy.

I survived for a month and 14 days. Can you? >:3

TL;DR – Just Give Me The Gist

  • Project Zomboid is a Zombie Survival RPG. Here are some of its planned features:
  • Retro-isometric style with plenty of zombie insides thrown in for good measure.
  • A massive city and the surrounding areas to traverse, explore and loot.
  • Open-ended sandbox world – survival is your only goal, and we’re sorry to tell you… you WILL die eventually.
  • Get infected. How will you spend your final days? Will you have a heroic moment of self-sacrifice, or end up chewing your best friend’s throat out?
  • Meet other survivors who you can join forces with, trade with, undertake missions for, or fight with for resources.
  • Loot, salvage, and build what you need to survive the apocalypse, from food and medical supplies, to weapons, even just booze to help get you through the nights.
  • Advanced item crafting allows you to use looted items to build weapons, traps, defenses, and many other things to help you survive.
  • Character progression. Learn skills and perks to help your character face the challenges of survival.
  • Starvation, illness, loneliness, depression, alcoholism, drug addiction, suicide, insanity, trust issues. There’s more to zombie survival than shooting zombie heads off.
  • Join your friends and survive the apocalypse together in co-op multiplayer.
  • The world changes the longer you survive; power plants fail, plunging the city into darkness and making batteries and tinned food prized commodities. The army rolls into the streets to perform ‘clean up operations’ and other gamechanging events occur the longer you survive.
  • Play in your browser, or stand-alone, on PC, Mac and Linux.
  • It will be released Minecraft style, where there will be continual updates adding new features, weapons, game-play and locations.
  • It is available here and there will be a tech demo coming soon.
  • The tech demo will just show a fraction of the planned features and is merely a taste of what is to come. We will continue developing after this point, feasibly for years and years, improving and expanding the game.
  • We have an active community that helps drive development, which can be found here.

Looking very much forward to seeing how this game develops. I heart it :p

Hmm, how long does it take for them to mail you a pass for the game and is the paid for pre-release available now? Also, one part I don't get, is this the full game you're buying, or do you have to pay for it again once it hits release?

Got my username and pass this morning at 07:25. The pre-alpha demo is currently "it."

You're buying a lifetime licence thing (like MineCraft) where you get access to all the latest goodies and stuff as it gets released and you will get the full (final product) once it's done too.

Bearing in mind that Project Zomboid is still pretty "new" and I've gotten a good number of hours out of the tech demo so there's a definite feel-good sensation in supporting this project so early on and that it will only get much, much better :D

\o/

I'll buy it tonight then. :D

Do you have access to the paid version already or just the demo? It seems they took the update server offline because somebody made a pirate version which auto-updates itself, effectively costing the studio money in bandwidth costs.

Nope, no access to the paid version yet :)

Paid version should be up in a couple of days.
There's no specific date, but it doesn't sound like it'll be very long.

I keep dying against the damn raider that comes in to talk to Kate. I never seem to get to him fast enough. :(

When the radio is playing, hide in the room furthest to the right (but away from the windows). He'll break in, go to Kate and ask her if she's alone, etc. You can sneak up behind him and splatter his brains all over the floor >:3

Heh, I keep hiding in the bathroom, then just as I get close to him to bludgeon his brains out, he shoots me in the face. I'll try the other room then, because then it will reduce the time I take to get from the door to him. :P

This game is everything I've ever wanted in a zombie survival game. :P

*nod* Same :D I can't wait to try out the co-op :3

The hick only really notices you if you're in front of him or if he sees you (through a window or otherwise) before he reaches Kate. If he reaches Kate, it's a different dialogue than if he spots you.

Bought the game even before the demo came out. Love it so much (but i fail so badly though :P)
glad notch tweeted about it and donated some bucks to the dev team. <3
