ADSL without landline not financially viable

Their time of holding this countries broadband options back are about to end. I really hope this local loop unbundling happens. It's going to be a big fsck-up at first, but eventually it would be better in the long run.

I vote for "yes, it is illegal" to bundle voice with DSL because if you're not using a voice line, why should you pay for it? Who's problem is it if it's not "financially viable"? Money grubbing state corporations FTL.
 
Of course it's not financially viable. If they unbundled the two, how in the hell would they be able to pay their CEOs their salaries?

Exactly my point. I say stuff their CEOs non-majestic salary. It's about time this flippin government and these corrupt companies have someone grab them by their balls for a change.

Since Installation, the Voice portion has never worked and I've attempted to get it sorted out for over 4 years now! I've just given up, So for voice I use cellphone anyway - out of no-choice, phone-line is used for ADSL only again not out of choice......GIVE ME A CHOICE PLEASE.

These guys make so much money, we need to upgrade infrastructure, hoping someone will open their eyes and see the possibilities.
 
It's not gonna happen, they are too closely entwined with Guavamint and it's too much of a cash cow for said Guavamint. There will be a whole lot of talk about how it will happen or must happen, blah blah blah but the likelihood of it actually taking place = zero :(

Telkom's first encounter with the real world out there without big brother's monopoly rules. Everything looks so scary & un-viable.

Majoor explained that [monthly] line rental covers the [once-off & sunk] cost of the copper from the clients’ premise to the Telkom exchange

In a country with milk and honey imagine, competition for Eskom and Telkom, then you will see a properly run service at the best price, but until then ( and I might be dead before that happens) we are scr3w3d.

I wonder if someone could make this case then. If unbundling takes place, could ISP's install the last-mile copper from the premises to the exchange for a once off fee, and then Telkom would only be able to charge for the connection from DSLAM to BRAS as they put it. But of course, Telkom will say that no-one else is allowed to install lines

Guess it workon which method of unbundling is chosen, and by the looks of it most ISP cant maintain the last mile at the moment. But serious, if telkom showed more value proposition they would be better off instead they would rather screw us over and than keeps us happy and willing to spend.
 
Wish I could get a landline/adsl :( Stupid telkom wont even give me that. even at the prices they charge. :/

Down with telkom and their dasterdly ways!

My adsl line is so broken and there's nothing that Telkom can do about it because they are blaming it on overcongestion. Add to that that I'm paying for a voice line that I'm not using and you've got a very unhappy customer.

Telkom should just go away already.

*BackHaul SONET Network (sheesh, if you havent recouped your costs on the SONET network from your Business customers [take bills and multiply between 2 and 10] by now - why are you in this business?)

Now it doesn't take much Engineering or Business acumen to work out that there's OBVIOUSLY a lot of FAT fed to the customer when it's really not that expensive to run the exchanges, which they are claiming are SO DARN EXPENSIVE from the customer to the exchange. We're not stupid Telkom, you're making a massive profit and burning it away by throwing it on the oldest gravy train in the country.

If you(Telkom) dump voice line rental on my line, you're still gonna make a huge profit for doing bugger all anyway. You're third cousins girlfriend does NOT need the New BMW, please don't make me pay for it.
