Ubisoft introduces the Uplay Passport, their version of a one-time pass

I wonder, am I the only person who stopped buying Ubisoft games after they first launched their shitty DRM?

UPlay just seems like a tragic compromise that fails to impress.

The only Ubisoft game I'm in any way interested in right now is From Dust, which (at least from last I heard) will be a Steamworks game.

Nope - I also stopped buying their products ... with a certain amount of reluctance I'll admit, since they have some good titles floating about.

I'm not entirely against this system; all the same I'll wait and see how it works before I leap in.

I have to admit, I refused to buy their games because of this DRM system. Then I bought Splinter Cell Conviction on a Steam sale, totally forgetting the DRM.

I only started playing the game yesterday, and so far I've actually had no problems with Uplay. I'm a bit miffed because I'm not going to be able to play it if I'm not close to a source of internet, but I can't really complain right now either.

I might be wrong ... but doesn't Steam give you the option of logging in in offline mode? You should be able to then play without an internet connection, since the Steam client authenticates the installation ...

The problem is that the steam client launches the ubisoft launcher, which works independantly from Steam. I could launch the game in offline mode, but Uplay is still going to need a constant internet connection to be able to play the game.

I see.

Well that sucks ...

I was actually considering getting one of their games while the special was running ... guess it's just as well my CC was busy shouting and swearing at me ... :p

While Uplay is still required to play the games, you do not need a permanent internet connection anymore, they took that out. The only Ubisoft games I even care about right now are Assassins Creed Revelations and Far Cry 3, neither of which needs multiplayer for me to consider them anyway.

Assassins Creed Brotherhood is amazing btw! :D

Ooh, I heard somebody talking about something like that a while back. Does it need to authenticate first before starting up, though?

I stopped as well, I look at a game and am like, "ooh that looks nice, oh damn its Ubisoft."
I just hope Might and Magic - Heroes VI will only need a once off connection

I guess it means there's a once off authentication when you first install the game - and after that you should be fine. If that's the case I'll happily support Ubi again ...

I'll check tonight. I will start the game with the network off and see if uPlay still needs the login authentication.

Annoyingly it looks like you need to at least be able to sign into Uplay in order to launch the game... :/

I've baught AC:B and never had any issues with U-play, I disconnected from the internet, and I could run and play, I just couldn't unlock achievements. But untill I can do the same with AC2, I'm not going to buy it.
