Show me where Christians have rampaged in protest in the streets because some guard at a prison somewhere peed on a Bible. You can try to point to the Crusades, but they were about politics, power, and wealth- and land-grabbing far, far more than anything to do with Christianity.

The Crusades were a series of religiously sanctioned military campaigns, called by the pope and waged by kings and nobles who volunteered to take up the cross with the main goal of restoring Christian control of the Holy Land. The crusaders came from all over western Europe, and fought a series of disconnected campaigns between 1095 and 1291; historians have given them numbers. Similar campaigns in the Iberian Peninsula and Eastern Europe continued into the 15th century.

Who said it was "the holy" land? I don't think they had any right to claim anything like that, and they were clearly driven by their own religious agenda.

The thing that stands out to me is not that he wanted to shoot people because he played the game, rather he bought the game because he wanted to shoot people.

In fact there was an interesting article a while ago about a study that suggests violent games actually decrease violent crimes

Hey I remember that. You have a point there bru, people always blame forms of media when some idiot does something wrong. I know a ton of people who play MW2, in fact, 4.7 million copies where sold in the US and UK alone. Why don't we have 4.7 million people doing these crazy things then? This guy could have been playing Spyro and would still have done the same thing.

Yarp. Same thing happened to Slipknot when Johan Harmse made all that kak in my town with his sword escapades. Slipknot has millions of fans...and he is the only crazed lunatic with a sword that made problems. Not even a few hours later, Slipknot was made the scapegoat.

LOL, speaking of "devil music", when I was in school, half the guidance / bible ed classes would go on and on about how if we listen to heavy metal, we'll turn into raving satanists and and up either killing a bunch of people, committing suicide or both, and they would play songs backwards at 100th of the speed and say things like "you hear where he says Mphpsjkaskbh, it's saying satan is good" or some crap like that. And most of their examples of evil music were what I was listening to...

Funny thing is, if you turn on VH1 or those DSTV radio channels and stuff, that music is now called "classic rock", and is nice mild old folks music.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! You hit the nail on the head bru! I remember that stuff. I remember a DVD series that was driven by the same issue.

At the end of the day, there will always have to be some form of scapegoat when something bad happens. It is the only way that some people can deal with it. Some guy goes and blows something up, but he happened to like a certain game or band, which will then be labelled as an influence. And people will stick to that, no matter what they are told.

In a perfect world, people will be judged by their actions and not their tastes.

Alternatively, EA can use this as a marketing tactic for Battlefield 3, LOL

Christian group wants games banned due to Norway killer
The Australian Christian Lobby is using the Oslo massacre to call for a ban on violent videogames in its home country, stating that the behavior of murderous idiot Anders Behring Breivik was evidence that games are evil, due to some logic.

"The studied indifference of this killer to the suffering he was inflicting, his obvious dehumanizing of his victims and the evil methodical nature of the killings have all the marks of games scenarios," said Lobby MD Jim Wallace. "How can we allow the profits of the games industry and selfishness of games libertarians to place our increasingly dysfunctional society at further risk? Even if this prohibition were to save only one tragedy like this each twenty years it would be worth it."

Federal Home Affairs Minister Brendan O'Connor, however, is backing games and still pushing for a widespread R18+ rating in his country, stating that we can't blame games for the actions of "a madman." Breivik did praise Modern Warfare 2 as a training tool, although it clearly didn't damage an already diseased mind.

Of course, given the possible religious motivation behind Breivik's attacks, it's hardly surprising that some Christians (no, not all of them) want to pin the blame on something else. After all, I can think of a certain book in which several protagonists inflict suffering indifferently while dehumanizing their victims.
