Locked/closed threads annoy me...

Flip, as the subject says, it seems the mods on this site are very quick to lock/close down a thread?!

Granted I've only been here (mygaming) for a little while, but I've already seen a few threads locked.

I'm a regular on mybb (under the same username), and they only lock threads if it seriously goes off course. And I mean seriously off course! Here it seems like quite a bit of censorship and control.

This is just an observation...dont be hatin :p

Yea it's when they know they are in the wrong but too "holier-than-thou" to man up

Well they did the competition correctly after rereading the rules on the Ipad 2 competition thread so you are blowing your trumpet for no reason. It said clearly 20 posts from the date you joined we just read it wrong accidently, but we know now what Tinman means.

You, my friend... ai I'm over it I didn't even enter the comp so there's really no reason for me to worry about a bunch of prissy teens and their friends

:wtf: after the comp was over maybe but according to this -

and all you have to do to stand a chance to win this Apple Tablet PC is to make at least 20 posts in the MyGaming forums (hence right here) before Friday 19 August.

- I can't see what you just said.

@OP - I agree 100% with you ..... closing threads is for the weak.

The comp thread was locked because the issue at hand was explained and resolved. No staff member was "covering anything up" or admitting we were "in the wrong".

markface, I'm curious as to what threads you think were locked for no good reason?

Was ambigious but it didn't state that the posts had to be from starting date/day of when the competition started like the exclusive competition does.

I do agree it is ambigious Meren but really how many members have over 20 posts? More than half of the members on this site? So really if somebody wants to be in charge of something they have to do it right... or am I wrong? I know for sure if this was at work he would be fired so fast it wouldn't even be funny

Yep theres tons of members with over 20 posts, but tinman actually forgot to add that they need to post their entry in the competition thread and was told by a moderator that we need to enter by posting in the competition thread.

I battle to see how people found the comp confusing:

1. The first post stated that users needed 20 posts on the forum before 19 Aug.
2. There was a list (made by sycogrim) that noted everyone who had posted in the thread and was eligible to win.
3. The winner was randomly selected from the pool of eligible entries.
4. The end.

Its just from what I've seen.

The compo thread was locked straight away after the winner was announced. I personally kinda like it when the other forumites fill it up with 'well dones', and 'enjoy its', and 'lucky bugger' etc to the winner.

The others are obviously the compo query from Lomek. To me it was a legitimate query. But mods answered, and locked it right then. I like the banter. I dont however agree with the tone of Lomek's posts and the way he handled himself.

I dunno, its just something I picked up on. Like i said also, I haven't been here long so take what I post with a pinch of salt.

I dont like any type of censorship personally, unless its directly swearing or threats to someone and that kind of thing.

What? myBB locks and deletes threads way more than mygaming.
Of course, they also have waay more threads. And plus, I didn't say they didn't. But it generally has to go way off topic and out of control first.

I don't know, everyone always complains about the perception of moderators locking threads to somehow assert their dominance on the forum, which is not the case
Threads are locked when they have reached the end of their life cycle or have spiraled out of control, no one locks a thread that remains on topic or relevant
In regards to the guy complaining about the comp and the results, no moderator can take responsibility for a misconception on the user's side regarding the rules.
His query was NOT legitimate, the rules were not vague at all, 20 posts, there you go
Ever ask yourselves why no one raises these questions WHILE a comp is running, answer is simple, in the hopes that someone else makes the mistake of not following basic entry criteria and thereby being disqualified from participation increasing the chances of the first individual

Very well said post ...... +1

The compo thread was locked straight away after the winner was announced.

The competition threads are usually locked once entries close to avoid late/invalid entries. Once a winner has been announced the thread no longer serves a purpose; I hear you about wanting to offer congrats and such but not having that option doesn't exactly affect the comp or ruin the forum vibe. It does however keep things tidy and it makes it easier to get the results out quickly and cleanly.

The others are obviously the compo query from Lomek. To me it was a legitimate query. But mods answered, and locked it right then. I like the banter. I dont however agree with the tone of Lomek's posts and the way he handled himself.

I explained his query in the post and I went into further detail with him via PM. The problem with leaving threads like that unlocked is that "banter" as you call it quickly devolves into flaming and bitching, neither of which do anything but create animosity on the board.

FYI, Lomek has been banned after violating board rules by flaming and threatening other members via PM, never mind the trolling.

Ever ask yourselves why no one raises these questions WHILE a comp is running, answer is simple, in the hopes that someone else makes the mistake of not following basic entry criteria and thereby being disqualified from participation increasing the chances of the first individual

+1 dude. No one complains until they lose.

We close competition threads to make it easier for people to pop in and see who won.

Otherwise you need to scroll through multiple pages just to check if you won. It is exceptionally easy to post a "congrats" message on the winner's wall, or send them a PM.

Yup, that's a pretty weak excuse to keep the thread open. Just being honest, don't be hatin' as mark said :P

If you know they oke you can send him a pm/wall msg or go tune him "Lekker boet" in TK or wherever you hang out on this forum.

Just would like the rules stated more clearly like the exclusive competition if possible stating

1. Timeframe posts are valid or invalid
2. Have to make an entry in the competition thread
3. like mybb does gives a sample entry in the thread so we know what to put

So far your exclusive competition rules have been easy for me to understand properly which I normally sometimes find hard to comprehend with my Aspergers Syndrome.
