"Cyanide Interview: The Iron Throne
PC | 30/08/2011 - 1:10 p.m.
As promised last week , here is our full interview on the two draft Cyanide in the world of George RR Martin: The Iron Throne RPG and The Iron Throne: Genesis . It talks about the acquisition of exploitation rights of the HBO series, some details on the RPG and then finalizing the strategy game. And bonus gift, a few unreleased screenshots and artworks.

A Game of Thrones - RPG

Hello, can you introduce yourself quickly, and tell us what your role in the development of the game?

VEAUCLIN Thomas, project manager of the Iron Throne RPG and artistic director of Cyanide
Sylvain DRY Lead Game Designer on The Iron Throne RPG .

Which is your assets according to HBO, the producers of the show? Will you be able to integrate the beautiful music? Or need to change some settings or characters?

We agreed on the image rights of players and their votes, the logo of the series, the music of course and graphics as the throne, and so on. The agreement was reached relatively late in development, we imagine that you do not have time / resources to change all the graphics. Did not you afraid that people used to the interpretation of the universe by Agot HBO reject your version of Westeros? So for the characters, the problem does not arise since we are identical to the series. For places, no, that does not make us afraid. The interpretation of the series is a vision of things, this will be another, without going in the opposite course. In addition we have many places that are not in the series so we had to take the most homogeneous of all. Our development started long before the visuals of the series are visible so we knew we would not be in identical environments. But the important thing was primarily to have the characters, which are the first of the spring the saga of GRR Martin. The animations do not seem very natural on some video clips we have seen, this is it part of the points that you will improve from here out? We're the shooter Most motion capture animation so do not formalize the current animations;)

Will we have the opportunity to visit the "Free Cities" in the RPG?

And no, sorry:) we focused on the first volume of a novel so clearly Westeros. Fashion is now in the Action RPG, and fighting real time. Understand your feedback regarding your bias for combat? Definitely not because the contrary, we are going in a direction that is much appreciated by the players, at least that's our point of view. This is not because the "fashion" is the action that everyone must comply. We make an RPG, not an action game. Have you found a publisher? if you do not find it, you'll self-publish? We are on track for an agreement, but since the beginning of the project we actually self-fund.

A Game of Thrones: Genesis

Some questions about Genesis , the STR also developed into the world of Iron Throne, but Cyanide Montreal

Genesis is not a traditional RTS. How do you think the players will react to this game in two?

We are confident that players will adapt well. The game was entirely designed in terms of strategy and cons, that is to say that there is no need to move from peace to war to finish a game. If you feel that your opponent will throw the kingdom into war, you have several ways to stay in times of peace or, at worst, force him to endorse the declaration of war. It is a point that makes the game so special is the variety of strategies possible. Unlike conventional RTS units that are limited and against-units, the Iron Throne: Genesis goes further and offers the possibility to adopt strategies political, economic ... not only war tactics. We made the bet offer players an RTS that comes out of the box, as many are jaded system harvesting / construction / mass production that has been 20 years since the first Dune actually. The Iron Throne: Genesis destabilize certainly some players at first, but once understood mechanisms, they fully enjoy this new kind of real-time strategy. Genesis is it still scheduled for Q3 2011? Is the series has had an impact on this game? Yes, the period for the launch. The HBO series has come a little late to influence the development of Genesis , it is then the good old books that fed our imagination.

OK, so I have clicked on this article about 4 times, and each time I expect a discussion on the series, Game of Thrones... and I have now ready the above about 3 times, and still I am unsure...

Are they making a game based on the series?
Or was the series based on a game?
Or were both based on something else like a book or older story?

The games and the tv series are based on the books by Martin, George R.R. - A Song of Ice and Fire

I've seen the tv series, and I am busy reading the 1st book, very close together/similar.
Really enjoying it, and yes, I think there is huge potential for various RPG's set during current history, and even past warfare/history.

Season 1 was brilliant. It led me towards reading the books. Im on book 3 now, which is quite impressive for me considering the last thing I actually read was a MacDonalds menu.

Seen a few clips of this now, and a few mates recommended it, so will definitely be watching this soon. Clips I saw were pretty epic, reminds me of The Tudors which was amazing imo.

I have to say, people really got me so amped for this, so when I watched it, I was a bit disappointed...

Watching Spartacus at the moment, that's really cool!

This is Spartacus:

Omg, like, how can you say spartacus is worse, when, like, spartacus has so much fighting xD. And blood. Game of Thrones is just too much story xD

I think the Game of Thrones universe has great score for an RPG. I would really like it to be an old fashioned hack and slash title!

I only recently finished watching the first series of the show, and have decided to start reading the books. Very nice!

Game of Thrones seemed a bit disjointed, lots of jumping between characters... but came together well in the end...

Spartacus is interesting but takes forever to get anywhere....

I have now reverted to watching Futurama! :)

Always wanted a hot and spicey series. I don't know where to get hold of this series as it looks and sounds really awesome. From what I make out it is similar to legend of the seeker and merlin?

That article makes me think that they are making an MMO set in Westeros.
