Gaming headphones: tips for buyers

Hey

Nice article although i was hoping it would be a thorough testing of the headphones so it gives us a better idea of what to look for. (The mouse pad article comes to mind)

Jus my 2c

very nice article...now if only I could get myself 1 of these... :)

I love USB headsets thus I can switch easlily between my 5.1 speaker setup and headphones for ts and games. Without having to each time switch jacks to change from speakers to headphones.

Thanks for the feedback guys; I'll sharpen my pointy stick and make sure Derrick pokes his nose in this thread for some further article ideas ;)

I duno about gaming headsets, but I own a pair of cheap Sennheiser HD201's I picked up in the UK for about R200 and they are AMAZING. The only brand of headset I will ever buy again. I'd rather just have a seperate detachable mic than change brands! :-D They have really blown me away!

Maybe a follow up article with testing some of the more popular headsets? Otherwise, yeah, it was a nice read.

Logitech Digital Precision PC Gaming Headset

I have a really impressive looking logitech set with a mic. Quite comfy looking. But after 10 minutes it feels like my ears have been cauliflowered :p

The only thing that puts me off is the price for these types of headsets :(
Guess awesomeness does not come cheap...

Has any one tried something like this. I have a set of roccat kave's and their awesome but not really what I wanted. They are comfortable but in the end earphone really would suite me better. I find I use my head phones more as speakers unless the others are sleeping. Anyone tried earphones? How do they perform?

headphones for all day wearing

hi
any body have a recommendation for headphones that I can wear most of the working day?
see, I'm a programmer and get irritated by noise so I put the headphones on and play something
to help me concentrate
I currently use a sennheiser PC 30, but it is more a skype'ing etc headset

Nice article. Can we also have a review of good in ear headphones as an alternative for those big bulky ones? I just want an all rounder that can work with my phone as well

Anybody own SteelSeries 4H headset? I am looking at getting as set in a couple months time, but am not sure if they are of good value or not. I am just looking for a budget-ish headset for gaming that has good sound, and a mic. I am currently using a cheap R40 Astrum headset for gaming, they work really well for such a cheap price, but the won't last that long. If you have a better suggestion than the SteelSeries 4H, please suggest something under my R450 budget, and if possible, that I can order from rampage-gaming.co.za. Thanks

I use the following to cutout the idiots around me when I code

A) focus + concentration - normal setup
B) normal Philips stereo headset - mood for music
C) earplugs - mood for near silence

Lol ja, I'm in an office with 6 dudes=4 Afrikaners, 1 Israeli and a WOW freak
everything is loud in here, from rugby discussions to the hebrew phone conversations
so i'm looking for something that would make them have to email me to get my attention

I feel your pain dude!
I was in the same boat.
Im also a developer and we used to have our own office which was nice, we were like 8 people.
Now we moved to head office and just the IT department is 50 + people, so the noise gets crazy!

I invested in a pair of 7.1 Razer Megalodon's about a week after the move.
They are freaking awesome! They keep out all of the noise, sometimes i don't hear my phone ring and im right next to it.
They are super comfy,i can wear them for 6 hours straight with no issues and they don't force the frame of my glasses into my
skull.
Plus the sound is awesome! :) but they are a bit pricey though.
But totally worth it!
