Anti-Virus

If you are looking for a free anti-virus program, I would definitely recommend AVG free edition, seems to do the trick, when I have used it, never gave any hassles. Seems to work alright. But in terms of a firewall, I personally recommend Comodo Internet Security 2011, works fantastically.

I really don't like AVG since it does not catch a virus coming onto your pc only when its on there then it catches it. If I had to go with a free one again I would rather go avast because having a active shield is way better that not having one. If I am on a old laptop Avir is awesome.

Using Kaspersky myself and omg its a awesome program but seeing the new User interface I think I will start looking for a new one.

What do you mean? If you have resident protection on, which is the default I think, it scans a file as soon as it's written or read from. What more would anyone want?

My experience is it only scan the file once its on your pc as soon as you read it. Copied some files from a "friend" turns our his pc was invested badly and well the copy finished and then avg started having virus warning non stop started deleting loads of files, did not even clean it just delete and a antivirus that just sommer deleting files fks up your windows fast. Booted in safe mode and used avast startup scan to clean my pc.

So you've had to use Trojan remover then... :p

Yes, but we don't want to go there. :) That time I was still using AVG. The malicious trojan was not detected immediately and when it was detected, it was too late. Thought formatting my drive would help, but nope, it did not. So I downloaded Trojan Remover and that worked wonders.

version 8?

Fell for they hype hey? ;)
Lol, I used to use AVG, but that just pissed me off. If you format your drive its quite difficult to find the free version and they always want you to buy the paid version - obviously.
I loaded Avast on my dads PC, that thing works like a charm. But yeah, honestly, I just thought that MSE was fine. I didn't even do any real research...apart from, "oooh, check that out, a free anti-virus...and its made by MS *download*"
Dammit :(

Yep, AVG got bad, and thats why I never bothered with MSE, I only trust MS to make my OS

Exactly what I said. What more would anyone want? Scan it before it exists?

Never had this problem with AVG loaded. It scans it before any other application opens it and prevents access if it finds anything. Must have clicked on an executable while it wasn't loaded. But don't worry it happens to everyone at some point. :p

I want it to scan while its in the prosses of being copied like any good anti virus program.

Say what! runned a executable ROFL wft are you talking about. It was a auto run executable as soon as you opened the folder it stats going mad with auto infecting evertying I had open at the time. I have yet to run on my own a Executable with of a virus.

Exactly what it does in my experience.

Ah the autorun as soon as drive gets plugged in "feature". Yeah had that problem on someone else's PC but as soon as I plugged it into my own AVG flagged it. I can't even tell it to ignore because it flags it again so I had to disable AVG to do a copy. Never had it fail to flag something and then later detect it when doing a scan.

Strange I had the opposite experience.

Avg pisses me off since it keeps flaging every dam file and you can't do nothing while its bombarding you with this YOU GOT A VIRUS YOU GOT A VIRUS. Then you have to say delete or qaurintene then it tells you O no I can't quarantine the file then you HAVE To delete it.

sticking to my avast as its free and does job for me :P

though thing i hate about avast some older pcs refuses to register it , though got register file now , which i can just add to avast.
