Telkom ADSL data cap increases are confirmed

Honestly if we want to improve the quality of internet in South Africa and decrease the price, then anything less than 50 GB shouldn't even be considered as an option for personal or business use.

The current prices are way too high as it is, so I can understand those who do not use the internet that much or those who simply cannot afford internet to have no need of something like a 50gb cap, the government should then launch some kind of outreach program where they subsidize cheap internet via Telkom to poorer communities or to people with disabilities etc.

Well my exchange to severe strain with the 20gig caps, this is 16. That is not much lower than 20, God, I hate Telkom.

I don't understand. Data caps should have no bearing on strain at the exchange. The problem seems to simply be an overburdened exchange (i.e. too many people connecting to one). What Telkom needs to do is upgrade your exchange capacity.

this is GREAT news! i am paying R413 for just 4 meg internet access. For an extra 141 bucks a month, i get 16 gigs, working out to R8.81 per gig!! beat that, sonny :-)

I will accept this... thanks. Now for you fewls to upgrade the speed.
Combined with my openweb account and free afri account its enough cap to last a while... not a month... a while.

To add to this... some dude (presume he works for Telkom) on mybb forums is chooning that Telkom are going to increase line speeds even in the next few days.
1mbps will be replaced with 2mbps, check it out here

Obviously I can't vouch for anything he says, and he doesn't provide any links/sources, but it is interesting. Hope he's right.

I have no idea, but that is what I was told by the technician... And Telkom aren't going to do shit about my problem!

Lol kinda like they told me about my exchange. Our noise margin is 8 on a good day and it tends to go down to 7 and then it renders my Internet completely useless. Sad part is that our exchange is less than a block away from us and we're having these problems.

Wish they would get going and bother to upgrade their exchanges and infrastructure. Haven't seen any work being done by telkom in a VERY long time

Bro, if I owned the pavement outside of my house I would own the exchange! That's how close I am to it !

If he's talking truth I'll definitely be welcoming this.

Lol, now THAT sucks ass. hopefully they will catch a wake up call soon especially with the looming threat of LLU (which has suddenly died a quiet death by the looks of things)

Yip, hopefully its all true, would be awesome.
Especially if the ISP's keep the pricing the same like the 512k upgrade. I'd hate to have a 2mbps line and my ISP keeps me at 1mbps. That would suck balls.

Got my official mail from Telkom as well today. 10GB upgrade to 16GB. I'm already sitting on 44GB on my blended, for some reason they didn't cap my 20GB promotional cap?? Not that I'm complaining. :p

Also only realised a week ago that Telkom is now peering with Mweb, which was great news. Telkom is surely stepping it up from where they used to be.

Now they just need descent uncapped packages!!

Agreed, though telkom also never really bought exchanges to facilitate uncapped. They make money from leasing lines at the highest cost, lowest bandwidth, lowest cap equals more profits
