The Legendary Troll Hunter
Hey Guyz.

So my Xbox has redlighted me. Yes the dreaded ring of death as claimed yet another xbox. Now as it is still under warranty thats fine coz i can go swap it out not prob at the Hi-Fi corp where i bought it, only catch is they're out of stock on the pro console (the one i have) and only have the arcade available. Now according to the twit in their sales they haven't had stock for about 3 months, but that could just be moron speak for a few weeks. Being the impatient kind i don't want to wait 3 months (like i had to the last time this happened) to get my box back. So i was thinking swap it out for an arcade and just keep my hard drive as it is basically the same console just with out the extra's. But im not sure that is the case. Any of you know whether or not the arcade can even take a harddrive? Your opinions are appreciated.
Thnx

Fenix Out.

Yes the arcade can take the hard drive, just not sure if achievements and such will make the move properly. I don't have an xbox yet and it sounds like I'd be better off without one. RROD FTL :(.

everything will transfer as it is on ur xbox ! the only stuff you will have to redownload is your video codec and any movies or trailers you have downloaded from xbl as it is locked to your old consoles serial ! demos, saves, achievements all of that wont have any problem working on your new console

LOL! Nah its not so bad, the warrenty cover it and its not all that common. Just a schlep having to take it back.

As i thought. Thanx Bro. I don't have video's and such don't use my xbox live, i have a nice pc form online multiplay. With cap being as expensive as it is, its just not cost effective.
So you think i should do it?

yeah if ur desperate then take the arcade ! just make sure its a jasper unit (they have 512mb built in memory compared to the 16mb built in that the xenons and falcon models have)

what was the mfr date on your console BTW ?

15/03/2008 so its just over a year old. There are no other differences between the consoles right. I mean its still an xbox and all that. Im quiet attached to my pro console but i really don't feel like waiting months to get it swapped out.

Im on my second 360 already ! my first one lasted just over 2 years and this one will be a year old next month ! I initially thought these falcons are pretty bulletproof but since yours have failed now im kinda getting scared of the reliability of mine ! i hope ms fixes the rrod problem for good

Update: You can no longer swap it out at the supplier. You contact xbox 360 and they send you a new one and pick up the old one. This is my second box also. My first one i bough right after it was launched here and it lasted till about March-May last year then croaked. This one is just over a year old. I must admit it is a little off putting, im a huge xbox fan but i mean the xbox is what 3 years old now, im sure Microsoft can fix the damn problem.

Anyways I have the forms and will complete them and fax them from work tomorrow. Then i'll just have to wait and see i guess. Atleast they only take the actual console so i don't have to worry that they will take my HHD or anything. Suites me just fine.

i think it would be a good idea if you post the procedures you followed and the numbers u dailled, then we all will know what to do when our 360's inevitably die again

That sounds like a brilliant Idea. Ill create a thread in the Xbox section, maybe Rusty and TinTin will be nice enough to Make it a sticky.

The kicker is that none of this should actually be necessary.

I just called Microsoft on the number included with my Xbox, they gave me a reference number, I took the Xbox back to Game where I bought it and got a new one. Didn't take much trouble. It would be nice if one didn't have to go through all of that, but it's certainly not a deal-breaker.

I didn't actually get the RROD, I had a controller syncing issue.
