I don't think the rep system should be taken personally, but if a lot of folks find it somehow ruins their forum experience, perhaps it should be revised.

Apart from the green and red blocks, I've yet to see what a rep system really brings to a forum. It seems to me that it's same as joining #somechannel and everyone just an op and it's become absolute.

Looking at my rep alone:

So I've been an ass for attaching reality to the situation, Legend for gifting and finally being red and green carded for misspelling a name.

A bit like buyer and seller rating with either only the good side or bad side showing in the end...

Where do I check my reputation, to see where I got uppers and downers?

Just go to your user control panel - it's listed right at the bottom if you scroll all the way down past your subscribed threads. If you've received any or had any taken away, then you'll see it there. If you don't see anything, no-one has given you a + or -.

It also links directly to whichever post the reputation was given on. Completely anon though - so unless the person id's themselves, you won't know who it was.
