Evidence of next-gen Xbox seeps through the cracks

My intuition tells me the earliest we will see the next gen consoles will be 2013, maybe even 2014. I suspect there may be announcements regarding them next year, possibly at E3. I also expect Microsoft to be first to announce their new console first.

With the X360 Slim only a few months old, we won't see the next gen xbox in the next 12 or even 24 months.
It would be awesome, but I reckon the current xbox is still capable of playing the latest graphically intense titles (Forza 4 anyone).
There is no reason to launch a new console within the next year.

My current Xbox 360 is still giving me joy, so they can take their time.

I agree,MS shouldn't rush the new console just to get a headstart on their competitors.
We needs a console that will last a while before repairs/replacement because of poor design/manufacture.I pay good money for their products dammit.

+1
As long as the current consoles and their games keep selling well, these companies will hold out as long as they possibly can before bringing in a new console.

Sorry but the evidence stated proves absolutely nothing imo.
Anybody with half a connection to the gaming industry knows for a fact that a new console is incoming from all the manufacturers. No proof is needed, further than the existence of money...

They can take their sweet time. I'm still very happy with my 360.
Besides I need a while to get my kidneys healthy enough for harvesting if I want to be able to afford the 720.

I think the big shock will come when the next gen consoles are announced. I was talking to a mate of mine who is in the gaming retail business, considering how tech is evolving and the price of tech these days, don't be surprised when the new xbox/ps ends up costing between R5000 and R7000.

I already paid R3999 for my xbox 360 when it was launched here back in 06

Not too interested at this point in a new Xbox, but I would like to see a spec sheet of what might actually be available in the end.

I think will still sell for about R4000 when reliesed but take longer to become cheaper.

You think the next gen xbox will cost the same as the current xbox when it launched?
That won't ever happen, next gen tech means next gen cash.

Relative to those days prices aren't that much different.

It will probably be a marginal amount more, otherwise the whole "consoles are cheaper" BS is even more BS.

Well that's the thing. If you look at what hardware the current gen of gaming consoles are running and the price we pay for it, its crazy. So I think with the new tech, possibly ssd drives as standard, more ram and obviously much faster gpu's, we are in for a little bit of a shock.

True, but you have to think about how much it was when released. Xbox wasn't too bad back in the day... unlike the PS3.

But every time a new console comes out the old one quickly drops in price. You only pay a lot for the current gen. because it is the current gen. even though you wouldn't pay a third of it for the actual hardware inside.

What I really want is for the console OS to be available inside VMs... that would be boss.
