Help with GPU

hey guys
Im in need of an upgrade for my graphics card but im on a really tight budget , about R800 or so +-
I don't need to run everything on ultra high settings just want something decent that i can use for a while longer
any suggestions in my price range ?

I would suggest saving up for another 2 months at least so you can have 1000-1400 which should at least enable you to get something like 450/550 in the nvidia range. I don't know the amd range that well.

I agree 100%. It might be worth the wait. That R200-R400 difference would make a BIG difference in the quality you can get.

the thing is even if i wanted to save up i cant , its a present
and that's the price range
im sure there must be something at least remotely decent

( i can maybe get it up to 1000 )
what would my options be then

In that case, would you maybe not consider going second hand?
There is some descent Classified Sites in SA that is very trust worthy, you could just strike a bargain and get more bang for your buck.

as long as its a trustworthy seller i don't really mind

That's a good card and still under warranty. MSI makes good hardware so I would go for this vga card for this price.

the recommended selling price is way lower than that.
The card wont run new games at full rez.. just FYI . Ive got 2 of those cards crossfired so i get double the performance and even that aint that great, At low res medium graphics yes but other wise no,

There was a 6770 on sale for R1000 at zones.co.za not so long ago, But you need to get a 6850 or 6870 as a minimum at this point in time .

Um you don't get double the performance, you get around 150%. I know I ran 2 of them in Crossfire.
They are good cards, although they are showing their age now.

Anyway for a R1000 you can maybe try getting a GTX550TI or a 6770. Both are good budget cards.

So if i get 24 Fps in BC 2 on full detail and then get 52 Fps on same settings with 2 cards.. YOu do the maths please

Is that a constant 52 fps? NO its not.

When running 2 cards in SLI/Crossfire it uses one card as the main and the 2nd one as performance boost. Its called scaling, maybe do some research before claiming such crap. I have been building pc's since I was 9. You do the math.

If you want close to double performance and sometimes more, get 2x 6xxx series cards as they scale much better than the 5xxx series.

Actually it is my avg FPS .. I mean what area ae you come check it out at the next lan I attend. its between 185% - 200% fps boost for me in most to all games i play. and this is supported by most of the reviews as well. I didn't quote reviews when i said it I used RL experience that i see on my own rig under my conditions.

Like i said find me at a lan and ill show you. :D

It is quite rig-specific. If you run at high-ish resolutions dual cards can make a big difference due to the larger amount of memory. In the higher end cards the memory issue disappears as 2x 2GB is a large amount of memory and the bottleneck shifts to other components.

Well I have a 5770 and ran Dirt 3 at fullest, 1080p and got a benchmark of about 28 - 30 fps. He also says that he isn't that interested in running on ultra settings. 5770's have apparently been discontinued and at that price it is very much worth it.

Like i said i dont need to run everything full
I do have quite a large monitor 1920x1080 as the native resolution
I just want something that can run newish games at decent frame rates

The 5770 is fine, I was just saying that a second hand one can probably be negotiated downwards of R1000. You can get a brand new one from R1200 and an MSI one is probably around 1400 which is pushing 550Ti prices.
