The Verge has a response to controversy around rAge LAN expo coverage

I find this entire affair laughable. Both from an industry point ( the state of the industry in SA) and from a gamer stand point. I can in all honesty say in all my time in SA i never watched The Verge, the one clip i did see was of the presenter FAILING to play Batman Arkham Asylum (in a non-combat environment) which kinda sold me on the idea that its a show by idiots for idiots. This entire "insult the core demographic" sage has just made me chuckle at the stupidity of the presenter and of those that seems to take this as some sort of personal insult. So the chick thinks gamers a a-social misfits, she isn't the first and she isn't the last. The fact that she host a gaming show should be considered mildly ironic if nothing else.

I find your entire paragraph laughable.

I'm sorry, I trolled.

How many of you people bitching about the show actually watch it? I think that Facebook page is one step into the wrong direction. It's become disgusting, and most of the people posting on it are pretty much confirming the stereotype. The way I see it, we've made our point, The Verge has told us to go fuck ourselves, so let's leave them to stew in their own shite. It always has, and always will be, a pretty shitty show that is aimed at casual/non gamers. I wouldn't be surprised if much the same happens in the future. They just really don't give a fuck.

Maybe everyone is just insulted by her stupidity? Anyway, she's in no position to insult anyone, anyway, since she's just an ignorant fool to begin with. But I understand why people are pissed off. Being ignorant is one thing, but being rude while at it is just very irritating and tends to piss people off.

I think the gaming community is pretty much just telling them to take their show and shove it up their arse.

Yep. If you want to make a difference hit it where it hurts. If you are unfortunate enough to have liked them on FB, unlike. Tell your gaming friends to do the same, tell everyone not to watch the show. If they loose numbers their parent channel will quickly replace them with something else. It's all about the money, every idiot spamming their FB page is just giving them hits, generating more coverage. This is something I feel few in the community understand - if you wanna boycott something dont talk about it, dont post about it just let it fade into the ether. We saw this with MW2 and every other attempt at boycotting the gaming community have tried over the last few years, people keep talking, posting, raving about what they are "boycotting" which just generates more publicity. In this media heavy age even bad publicity can be good for a product.

her attitude stinks period.

someone tell her to eat some make-up, then she might be pretty on the inside too...wait shes not pretty on the outside either

Yeah the whole Internet hate thing is silly. You say your piece, let it be known how insulting the segment was and then you do the thing that actually matters to them, you stop watching. Or in most cases you continue to not watch and maybe convince others who do watch to stop.

Personal attacks are just lame and unproductive.

wow! so not only do they produce a weak and pathetic "gaming" show, and not only do they then proceed to insult the gamers they claim to appeal to, but now they don't even have the decency to apologise in a genuine manner? pathetic.

I don't even have DSTV, never knew the show existed.

@lalla_hirayama Johannesburg, South Africa
Television Host, Motivational Speaker, Actress, MC, Dancer, Model (Really?), Voice Over Artist, Ninja...

Motivation for what? To throw rocks at her?

What was that show called?....you know,The something?....it was so bad they canned it...The Turd or something like that....

Just saw what she tweeted what a idiot. What a stupid stupid stupid person.
I hope her kids are big gaming nerds then lets see what she thinks.(even though I doubt she thinks)

You know reading her twitter feed...

I kind of pity her. Why the hell is she on The Verge? She doesnt like gaming and doesnt know anything about it. All of her tweets are about people and fashion. Nothing else. I'm not surprised she messed this one up - perhaps she is tired of pretending to care?

If you hired me to cover a cricket tournament, I'd probably suck at it too because I dont care about cricket. I'm not saying it makes it okay to rip on gamers - its stupid and shows an outdated mindset - but I think its because she just doesnt care.

Maybe she is hoping this job will get her noticed? Well she got noticed, maybe thats what she wanted all along.

Wow I didn't think they could mess up an apology (or attempt at it) but their reply is just pathetic. I really didn't see any humor in that video just her making a mockery of rage and gamers.
You don't see Supersport mocking any sport athletes or any other entertainment show for that matter. Just shows how unprofessional they are. I'm really disgusted by their response, didn't feel like commenting on the forum post about the video thought maybe it was just human error but after this response...

It's fine to be judgemental. Nothing wrong with saying something is bad, wrong, stupid. That goes both for her and the people who don't like her. Or anything else for that matter.

If you're going to do humour you need someone who can pull it off. A British accent always helps. Watching the video I can see places where she is trying to do humour, but she's useless at it. I wouldn't advise any further attempts at comedy (unless she learns the accent).

Yeah, boycotting doesn't really work if you keep quiet. You have to make a noise. Might it backfire? Could they read lots of comments on the facebook page as proof of success? Sure, they might.

And she probably thinks fashion is something cool and important. It depends on the show obviously, but pretending to care could be part of the job.

If you hired me to cover a cricket tournament, I'd probably suck at it too because I dont care about cricket.
I might be able to pretend I think cricket isn't a stupid, boring game.

I'm not saying it makes it okay to rip on gamers - its stupid and shows an outdated mindset - but I think its because she just doesnt care.
If someone thinks playing these games is stupid, then they're entitled to say so. I'm not sure what the point of this particular show is though.

Maybe she is hoping this job will get her noticed? Well she got noticed, maybe thats what she wanted all along.
You have to be careful about that sort of thing. She may believe there is no such thing as bad publicity, but she'd be wrong.

The only person who should be getting flak is the chop who decided she is suitable for the job. Oh and maybe the guy who decided to censor FB etc.

Whole thing stinks something else... Internet is a nasty place, I don't think the verge was ready for the back-lash they caused. Surprisingly I never heard of the show until I saw that video of a obvious troll...

Totally uncalled for, going to LAN event such as RAGE to belittle participants there. Why go out of your way to focus on perceived weaknesses and inadequecies of the people you are targeting? Verge, why not next go to an event where there are a lot of models and then focus on the stupid ones, asking them things that don't relate to modelling? "whistling:
