Seeing as I run 3 Aerocool psu's and have had many different brands including, Antec, Gigabyte and corsair I can tell you there is nothing wrong with Aerocool.

For the price its unbeatable.

Also I have stopped reading online reviews, I go through more pc parts a year than most people so I draw my own conclusion, that includes any and everything you can think of, from dvd writers to 13 different gpu's ect ect. At the end of the day, online reviewers can't be trusted, as they "get asked" to punt certain brands, and yes I know not all of them do it, but I have noticed certain reviewers favoring certain brands ect.


6990 is a fantastic idea btw Grim :)
You will not regret it, although the price is rather steep xD

I want to get me a Sabertooth and a BD when I get back from my Business venture this summer :) Will probably sell my current i7 950 and Rampage Formula III before I leave since I won't be using my pc while I'm away anyway.
 
Multimedia I'm thinking. In the future I can then specifically go into just animation/game design or whatever I chose to specialise in. At the moment, I just want to keep my options open :)
 
I say upgrade, there is nothing better than a new rig :) Well that is subjective of course cos I can think of a few things, but a new rig is always good.

Trying my luck? No, Computer parts drop in value very quickly as new stuff comes out. I don't want a new computer so was maybe being a little conservative considering that that is the quad-core i5. People are usually quite skeptical about second hand computer equipment though.

@Joker, although this is true, you can't conspiracy theory everything... Do you know which model number the 1000W that you used was? is it the same one as in the review?

Hey Hobo, mini threadjack here, and probably not my place to say this, but here goes...

I studied Multimedia when I finished school 13 years ago, and to this day I wish I hadn't. I do love design and being able to do 3d, video editing, sound etc, and the graphic part (paper and pc), but I just could not do this for the rest of my life. This will be different for many other people.

If I could go back to those years, I would much rather do BsC Comp Science, or another IT course, or Electrical/Electronic engineering. Today, I am a kind-of linux sysadmin, and I don't use any of the skills I learned in college.

If you are able to get 3 A's, then you are obviously intelligent. I would almost like to recommend you look at Computer Science if this tickles your fancy, I know for a fact the money is much better :)

OK! So I am soon to pull the trigger, but ffs I can't seem to decide what to get!

There are to many motherboards and RAM brands to decide.

I have pinned it down to the Sabertooth board OR the Maximus IV Gene-Z OR the P8Z68-V PRO OR the P8Z68-V

I really don't know enough about Mobos to know whats good whats not etc.

RAM I guess is RAM, I will get either Corsair gaming RAM or Kingston hyper X.

GFX I have decided on the 6970. 6990 sounds like it a power hog heat machine.

Power supply, also to dam many of them, but I am keen on either a Corsair or maybe Antec.

CPU will be the 2500K.
 
perhaps look at other peoples systems and see how games run on them and decide. I can see all popular choices there you cant be off

Avoid the Gene Z...The GPU slots are way to close to each other mate, just in case you're thinking of doing crossfire at a later stage. As for the 6970, Its a beastly card and I know you'll be more than happy with that.

Thanks dude, I remember you actually warned me against the Gene Z already.

So the Sabertooth vs the P8Z68-V PRO - any real difference?

I find it hard to gauge the difference between boards.

The Sabertooth is pretty much built with same parts as the rog boards, also Sabertooth boards have a 5 year warranty as apposed to the normal 3 year warranty.

I would go for the Sabertooth :)

I've had a Corsair die on me, never had a Antec die on me. Although Corsairs are fantastic, I wasn't to happy when a piss expensive Corsair Psu died within 7 months of purchase. I might have just gotten a Bad apple though lol
