What to do?! GoW3 or Dark Souls?

Damnit I cannot make up my mind.
On the one hand I love the Gears of War series, especially the local co op, and now they've added local MP servers!

And on the other hand I am a arpg junkie and love a good challenging game and Dark Souls really looks great.

I can't make up my mind, anyone have any suggestions and experience with one or both of these titles that can maybe help out a bit and maybe give some feedback to help me make up my mind?

Personally, I'd pick Gears of War 3.

No doubt Dark Souls is an intense challenge, but GoW 3 is simply going to be way more fun. It's the conclusion to the trilogy, there are some epic plot twists and character story arcs are (mostly) brought to a conclusion. It has some great multiplayer modes too. Just be prepared to spent some extra dosh on DLC over the months.

Dark Souls on the other hand; prepare to die and be frustrated - a lot.

Ye I also think GoW 3 would be the better choice for now, maybe I'll get Dark Souls later when I have geldjies again.
My only gripe with GoW is as you said the DLC... :(. I'm not really into paying extra cash for maps or so.

But ye I'm not totally decided yet but GoW looks to be the one, for now atleast.

Another for GOW. Busy with the campaign and it is awesome! Looking forward to some MP.

Dark souls will just get your blood pressure up. Stupid game. :p

Dark Souls without a doubt. If you want value for money it is the obvious choice. Yeah it's hard as hell, but it's also really rewarding and really addictive.

I'm with Wlad. Dark Souls over Gears hands down. You will have finished and forgotten about Gears & still be playing Dark Souls & not just coz its hard. DS is the game that keeps giving.

Demon's Souls came out in 09 and Im still playing & Loving it. Gears 2 on the other hand i've played once and never again. I've forgotten the entire plot, all i remember is that half way through I knew how it was going to end. Demon's Souls I've finished 3 time and remember ever nerve wrecking second.

But you are a Demon Souls fanboy and don't like gears so naturally you would recommend ds.

I consider myself more a connoisseur of good games. While Gears if my no measure a bad game I just found the first 2 instalments utterly forgettable. While I enjoyed the gameplay nothing in the plot or missions grabbed me.

And If you didn't suck at Demon's Souls you would be screaming its praises from the Rooftops just like the rest of us. :p

Lol true. Honestly I love everything about demon souls and will probably get dark souls eventually. It's a one of a kind game. I didn't even know it was on xbox, even more reason to get it.

If I put more time into it I would nail it.

You actually can't compare these 2 games. It's not really fair on either game.

Yes it's a hard choice and it's true that you can't compare the two, it's just I currently only have money to spend on one.

Yep you can't compare them but hour for hour, thrill for thrill, Dark Souls & Demon's Souls win out unfortunately. How do you compare a 8-12 hour campaign (Gears) to a minimum 60 hour* campaign (single play through for Dark Souls), short answer is you cant. Also the two DS titles will trick you into feeling like you have accomplished something real while in reality its still just a game.

*Only a superhuman god amongst men can complete it in 90 min (or a bored, lonely Jap).
 
I bought Dark Souls and maybe I just don't like dying that much...so I'd rather go for GOW3 if you are after the fun factor of a game.

Also visually GoW3 looks awesome...haven't played it yet, but finished the 1st two.

Dark Souls is a superbly crafted game full of nuance and subtle genius. Gears is a popcorn game thats fun for a while, but is like a Micheal Bay movie. ultimately shallow and vacuous.
