Really... all games will be social well then the EA exec is an idiot.

There's a reason people like solitaire... they don't have to deal with people especially stupid ones.
Single player games make people feel good they don't have to complete with some 15 year old who who been playing black op 16hours a day. In a single play games like Mass Effect and KOTOR and Batman AA, people like to save the world and feel good about it.
Social games most time are always going to be competitive. Also some people well they just don't play well with others.

Bear in mind that not all social games involve direct interaction with other people.

Farmville is one the most popular social games out there - but you don't actually play WITH other people half the time - you just rely on people to assist you etc.

As long as you have friends - social games have the potential to hook you.
 
Meh, I intentionally steer clear of games like that (WoW etc). Don't do clans either. It becomes an "obligation" too fast...I just want to chill while gaming & not have someone be on my case for whatever reason.
