Payday The Heist

Hey all,

Yesterday a little gem on Steam became available. Payday The Heist was released for $20 or $60 for the four pack. It's a first person shooter that puts you into the shoes of one of four bank robbers. Your aim as a hardened criminal is of course, to rob banks and take hostages in an attempt to move to the next biggest heist.

This is a co-op and single player game, allowing you to play with up to four buddies, there is some form of carachter progression where weapons and unlocks become available as you build your skills and reputation.

My initial impressions so far on this game have been rather good. For 20 dollah, it's certainly worth a look. I recently bought the four pack, and distributed it to four accomplices. Played a game last night, enjoyed it thoroughly, there appear to be only six levels or missions available, but this is not as limiting as one may think. The level system, difficulty settings and weaponry allow for a more in depth game and provides you with more of a challenge as you rank up.

Graphics wise, nothing ground-breaking, but by the same token not bad for a budget game. Textures are a little pixel, but visual effects and models appear to be in good shape. The menu interface is well done and easy to navigate.

I have come across very few bugs and a couple of minor annoyances. Being the inability to extract ammo from weapons but not actually pick-up the weapons. Voice dialogs don't appear to be fantastic either and the AI is generally dumb.

Overall, it's decent. I will be having a game this evening with CrzWaco, Cyro and Impulse.:)

Played a game now with CrzWaco

The game is smooth and handles great, the graphics and lighting is very realistic and runs at about 120fps on a HD6870 (1080p max settings). Gameplay-wise it is fantastic, it is clear that the game is based around Co-op but I could not imagine it otherwise. The game is both hard and fun ensuring that it will keep you busy.

Like Xeros said, at the moment there are only 6 heists (maps) but I am sure they will release more and hopefully mod tools will be added allowing users to create their own maps. There are also unlockables like guns, attachments and perks but since i have not played much yet I cant really comment on that.

So far a great game 8/10

Can become a bit tiring playing the same map. But the unlocks at least keep you going for a while. Only at level 13 or something, there are 45 in total I think.

Generally quite fun, although the hard level is, well... hard, the four of us came short a couple of times.

If u buy the 4 pack do u have to gift the extra copies immediately or can you store them in Steam to dish out later? A friend overseas is wanting me to buy the 4 pack and gift him and another friend. We don't have another person to gift it to.

ALso, does one person host the game and the others join him/her? Hence the game is hosted locally if the host is in SA?

yes you can you can even put it in for trade.

Yes its you host game friends join you no dedicated servers.

I see the patch has fixed a few of the little bugs. Must say, fun game, really enjoying it. Only gripe I have is that unlocking of the weapons seems to be taking for ages. I still haven't unlocked any additional weapons besides a shotgun. I want one of those lekker rifles under the assault class. The maps are a little limiting, hopefully we will be provided with additional levels soon, gets a little repetitive. But so far, 5.5hrs played.

Biggest irritation they shoot through walls. !!!@
I noticed. I'm sure the raging spewed from both of us last night drove a few people to move away xD - They shoot through the damn walls when you hide behind them, admittedly not all of the walls, well that would be stupid, but one of the walls in the first mission. I was wondering where the heck I was being shot from as I didn't see any cops.

Which game is not?
Touche. Will wait tho till bugs r sorted out tho. The one review i read tho was saying how the levelling system and some other stuff is not exactly self-explanatory. A little off-putting for me, but at least the price of the game is very reasonable.
