So its about that time that i built up a new PC and sad to say ive been sittng with a console for way too long and have lost track of whats what in the PC world... last PC i had was a LGA775 with DDR400 Ram & AGP graphics so lets say its been a while...

So id like to know differences and pro's & Con's between the socket 1366 vs 1156, what do you use? and why?

Got a socket 1366 myself, but both these sockets are old. Maybe look at a Sandybridge 1155 setup or wait for Intel's new socket launch.

Go for 1155 or wait for the 2011 socket.

1155 replaced 1156, 2011 will be replacing 1366.

Wow ok looks like ill wait for the 2011 how long has the the 1155 been out?? And then just as you get the 2011 there will be something replacing that...:wtf: dont even want to get started on RAM and memory... Just want some level of future proofing.

Forget about 1156 and 1366 wait for the new sockets to arrive. Also afaik it goes like this 2011>1155>1366>1156>775

I agree with users wait for the new socket shouldnt take to long to come out unless you need to upgrade then 1155 is the way to go. Both the 1156 and 1366 are dated sockets, so dont get that... i am not sure how long Intel will keep socket 1155 alive after they release their new CPUs, so in case you were thinking of upgrading again soon after your current purchase.

Get youtself a Z68 mobo, Sandy Bridge 2500k or 2600k. Take a good shot of CUD, and stay in the game :p

X79/socket 2011 + Ivy Bridge + Southern Island/Kepler-based ATI/Nvidia gfx cards = for the win!

Or you could get Z68 + 2500k + 6900/5xx series.

The latter will undoubtedly be much kinder on the pocket, probably with fairly similar performance to boot.

Sounds like a plan!!

You guys tell me what you would do with a 8k budget and i mean starting from scratch so peripherals and OS would have to be included, whilst trying to not compromise on performance, i need something that will handle the latest and up and coming for a good period of time... Oh and i must add im pro Intel/Nvidia!! AMD/Ati not so much lol

I can give you a quote for a decent rig. What size monitor are you looking for?

Awesome lets see what you can come up with, Im not to picky about the monitor i suppose nothing less than 23" LED ofcourse.

That might stretch your budget, and a legit copy of Windows as well.

But here we go :

Motherboard : ECS Elite P67H2-A3 @ R1050
CPU : Core i3 2100 @ R1250
RAM : 4GB matched kit (2 x 2GB) Kingston Hyper X Blu @ R450
HDD : Seagate Barracuda 500GB @ R475
VPX : Gigabyte GTX 550Ti @ R1599
PSU : Huntkey 550w PSU @ R545
DVD-RW : LG 22x DVD-RW (Can't remember the model code ) @ R239
Monitor : LG E2340T 23" LED Monitor @ R1599

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit DSP @ R1150

Comes down to R8375

With a full system discount, we'd do the system as above @ R8199

Prices are off the retail place I work at price list. However I can't remember exactly what the CPU and monitors' prices are. That does look right though.

I know it's over your budget, however you could swap out the CPU for a G620 CPU for the time being, and upgrade the CPU later. If that is the case, system price with discount etc would be R7725

I left the case and keyboard/mouse out because that all depends on you, what sort of case and keyboard/mouse you looking for.

Socket 2011 launches 14 November. it will replace the 1366 socket as the new extreme processor and board series.

1155 is staying in. Next Intel launches new 1155, Ivy Bridge. Current gen CPUs will work on it, so that buys you some upgradability.

The 2011 socket will most likely be insanely impressive, but I imagine the price tag won't come cheap. I would say hang ten till beginning next year if you can wait, otherwise go 1155 with a 2600k CPU.
