Socket 1366 vs 1156

Think im gonna hold out till the new year, Keen for the 2011 depending on the price tag i will decide on staying the the 1155 or going for the 2011.

That might stretch your budget, and a legit copy of Windows as well.

But here we go :

Motherboard : ECS Elite P67H2-A3 @ R1050
CPU : Core i3 2100 @ R1250
RAM : 4GB matched kit (2 x 2GB) Kingston Hyper X Blu @ R450
HDD : Seagate Barracuda 500GB @ R475
VPX : Gigabyte GTX 550Ti @ R1599
PSU : Huntkey 550w PSU @ R545
DVD-RW : LG 22x DVD-RW (Can't remember the model code ) @ R239
Monitor : LG E2340T 23" LED Monitor @ R1599

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit DSP @ R1150

Comes down to R8375

With a full system discount, we'd do the system as above @ R8199

Prices are off the retail place I work at price list. However I can't remember exactly what the CPU and monitors' prices are. That does look right though.

I know it's over your budget, however you could swap out the CPU for a G620 CPU for the time being, and upgrade the CPU later. If that is the case, system price with discount etc would be R7725

I left the case and keyboard/mouse out because that all depends on you, what sort of case and keyboard/mouse you looking for.

That spec is a bit low for my liking, i may dig deeper into the pockets and stretch the budget between 10 - 15k and may possibly split the build over a couple of months as to not damge the bank too severely:eek:

Alrighty then.

If you do need further advice you can just give me a shout.

Considering previous generation 1366 socket i7 prices, you are likely to see similar prices well in excess of 5k for 2011 cpus

Wiki got some prices in $'s...so that is really just a ballpark figure...cause in SA we tend to get ripped big-time...just to give you guys an idea...

I bought a Gigabyte GTX590 off the shelve in Malaysia for R3400... :/

The only things I'd keep out of your revised setup would be the graphic card, hard drive and keyboard.

I'll work out something better for you tomorrow while at work.

The monitor you selected is also EOL. Unless some shop have it in their stock already, you will struggle to get hold of it.

Yeah i know the screen is EOL we still got a few in stock though but as i said thats just a rough idea of the kind of spec im after...

Whats wrong with the graphics card, keyboard & HDD?? I got a quote for similar spec with the i7 for just under 10k so will continue hunting for the best spec for the best price:)

Sorry my wording was wrong. Out of what you listed, I'd only keep those 3 items.

I'll do something uber for you later today ::P

What is the difference between the i5 2500 & the 2500k?? as there is a slight price difference between the two. I can up the PSU to 750W aswell for a slight price increse but surely 500W is sufficient?? i dont know..

Well you can go for that.

But remember though, the 6950 RAPES the 550Ti. The K allows you to overclock a lot more. The ram you have there is 1333.. 1600 is faster =/. I personally stay away from chassis' that have doors. I've busted one off one of my cases a few years ago. The CM looks a lot sleeker than that NZXT you have there.

I mean if you wanted a 550w PSU, we could do the revised price with a 550w for R 13 375.

Granted it's a grand more. But you getting a better looking chassis, and more performance. Only thing is the Windows is not included. Which may or may not be a deciding factor for you.

I went with the 700w PSU initially, as over time, you may add a second graphic card/add more hard drives. So if you go for a 550w now, and want to add more things in the future, you gonna have to get a bigger PSU anyways.

+1 for he had said.

I used to have a Gigabyte Odin 720Watt...but when I purchased a GTX 295 back in the day it was too small...now I got a Corsair HX1200 and a GTX 590. Not to brag and all, but all I am trying to say is that you might regret buying a 500Watt PSU now.
(Take note that these two cards draw a lot of power, so no need to go as big with a PSU like i did)

Same thing happened with my 1333Mhz memory...started to overclock my system and my memory got left behind. So I upgraded that and now I have memory in the drawer...
I'd also say that 1600Mhz is the way to go, or should be entry level these days.

And then lastly...I had a Antec P-180 aluminum case with a door...that door got so annoying after a few months that it also ended up in the cupboard. Bought a CoolerMaster HAF X recently...and gave that case away to someone.

Makes alot of sense, never was a fan of ATI but hey i have no reason to not go that direction i suppose, ill probably drop down from the 2500k to the standard 2500 i have no intention of overclocking, ever. Ill definately go for 1600 RAM or higher if possible, only real killer is PSU's over 750w are hell expensive... anyway Thanks for all your input much appreciated, all will lbe considered!!

Why not? To overclock is so easy theses days, and Intel intentionally release chips like these cause they know they are capable of doing it. All motherboards as well is released theses days with reviews mostly being after overclocking capabilities. I was also against the whole overclocking hype, but it is soooo easy to do with no real bad consequences...I would reconsider if I were you, especially because the price difference between the 2 CPU's are so small.

Just my thoughts :)

Will definately consider it, but with very minimal knowledge on overclocking, last thing id want is to spend that much money just to "intentionally" cause system instability or damage due to lack of knowledge. And i know if the capabality is available to me, theres no doubt that i wouldnt try:)
