Media Server to your Xbox - Suggestions?

I've been trying to get something going which can stream media (movies, series whatever) from my PC onto my Xbox.

I've tried windows Media Center, and it doesn't natively support mkv's. Plus I find it rather annoying the way it looks and feels. It feels too restrictive.

Another suggestion which I've kind of looked at is PS3 Media Server, but I'm having issues detecting my xbox for some reason. I really like the look of it, it just comes across as really simple and lightweight.

What do you guys use/suggest?

TVersity works, but as far as I know you should have a xbox live account...
If anyone knows how to do it without live, please let me know!

You don't need an xbox live account to stream media from your PC. What you do need is the optional media update to be installed, and for that you need to sign in to xbl, at least once. But you don't need a gold account for that, just a free silver account.

This is the same as if you're trying to play video from a flash stick or something on your xbox. It's basically codecs as far as I can tell.

So, what you need to do is get your xbox hooked up to the internetz, join xbl and sign in (you'll get 1 month free gold when you join :D. No CC or payment required). When you are signed in to xbox live, try play a video from a flash stick or from your TVersity or whatever. It'll say a media update is required, say OK or something and it'll download it for you and you're good to go.

All free if you're worried about xbl being a paid service

I have a gold XBL account, so no worries there.

I just tried to download TVersity. Damn thing keeps telling me the download got corrupted. I've downloaded it twice now. Dont know what the issue is.

I then retried Windows Media Center, after installing the Haali Media Splitter so that I could at least see the mkv's and HD stuff. Then I couldn't get the Xbox to see the PC.

Disabled my windows firewall, made sure upnp is enabled on my router. Eish...will have to do some more fiddling tonight with it all.

I actually haven't played around with Media Centre too much, despite it being quite easy to navigate. What's the filesize of TVersity?
