You know, resorting to telling someone he's a troll because you don't have a proper counter to their argument is really sad. Battlefield 3 is your stock-standard military FPS. No holds barred, point and shoot. Neither Skyrim or Deus Ex is about pointing and shooting. How about branching storylines, an integrated skills and attributes system? Hell, how about simply a dialogue system where you get to choose what your character's response is to NPCs?
A straight up military shooter is not nearly as complex as a fleshed out or complex as an RPG, or FPS RPG for that matter, seeing as every example of an FPS you gave pretty much falls in the latter category. A military FPS like MW3 or BF3 can be fun, but it is neither complex, nor anything but casual.
Lol @ your last post, though. The typical 'I've got nothing left to counter with so the argument is retarded hurrr' post.
Your entire definition or standard for "complex" is purely based on the type of game that you put more time in to. RPGs. And by extension what you see on the surface, story, stats, branching dialgoue trees etc are what you deem complex elements. And oh my goodness, an FPS doesn't have these so obviously this means its less complex. That
is retarded because they're two completely different types of games. Besides that those complex elements that you talk about, those are stock-standard RPG mainstays that have been around since the 80s.
Here's the kicker, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. BF3 is not in fact a straight-up military shooter. As much as Skyrim will not be a straight-up RPG. There is a bucket load of sh$t going on in there. Even more so in the up and coming MW3, from what I've seen and read. The entire Elite system adds a whole new level to traditional military shooters. Even Battlefield's Battlelog is pretty impressive with its robust web & mobile integration. Its not quite, TDM, Deathmatch and capture the flag anymore.
It's so typical to be completely taken out of context on forums. My original comment that BF3 is pretty complex was an observation on the evolution of FPS games, in comparison to something like, oh I don't know... quake1. Yeah, its a bit more complex.
But you had to go and get all personally affronted by it, "how dare you say FPS are complex, have you never played an RPG?"
Really?
Just wanted to add... in deus ex you do point and shoot and in Skyrim, if you're a magic user or use a bow.
