Guild Wars still worth it after all this time?

It took me almost a year and a half to start playing the other campaigns.

Mainly because I have A.D.D. in games and get distra... OOOH A BUNNY!

Uhm, where was I, but it took me less than a month to get the other campaigns done with their bonuses. So taking a month to complete the whole of Guild Wars is possible, but don't get distracted! Then there is end-game content too and Hard Mode to challenge the more adventurous.

There is a lot of content and you can loose yourself easily in the fun of exploring and finding those cute white bunnies of DOOM!

I'm considering buying this because it's just so damn cheap. Can you type in '/played' and see how many hours you've put in (like in LotRO)? I don't want to buy a game and not finish it, I have a terrible track record in this regard...

You can use /age it tells you how long you've played across the character you're on, across all characters aswell as how old your account and your respective character is. Also once your character is one year old you get presents :D

I've always been super tempted to get back into Guild Wars...Do you think there will be a major benefit from playing for a couple months leading into the GW2 release? What sort of things get carried over?

If you buy GW:EN, you'll unlock the Hall of monuments, filling up your HoM and then later on linking your GW1 and Gw2 account will lead to some pretty epic skins, TAKE NOTE: These are only skins, they are not heirloom like items that are obscenely overpowered. ONLY SKINS,

Anyway, if you want to see the skins, http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=main&details=AAAAAAAwMeCAAAAAAADAAAAAAAAAAAAASGEAAAAAAAA

^That's mine so far btw ^^

Some of them look pretty epic :D Holidays are coming up soon...maybe I'll install it and give it a whirl again! haha

I am tempted to maybe play this over the December holidays .. R200 is cheap esp. with no subs.

Once you have your heroes and then further on when you have decent hero builds going on the game opens up immensely, it's gotten so much more fun now that I have all the hero builds :D

Protip for new players.

Start a Factions character, get to level 10 quickly, should take about 3 hours. Then head to Lions Arch and activate the quest to go to Eye of the North.

You get 3 heroes (level 20) once you get to Eye of the North.

Then you can then get yourself to Gunnars Hold and do some dwarven brawling to quickly get yourself to level 20. It is a repeatable dungeon and very easy to complete without dying.

Edit: You can use your Prophecies character, it will just ake a bit longer I think, Factions is the fastest in my experience, whilst Nightfall is the slowest (OMG it is sloooooooooooow).

My ranger (1st char I made) got his 5th b'day present last month, he's lvl11 - and NOT pre-searing.. :o I have so many damn mini pets by now it's ridiculous.

As for the fast lvl'ing in nightfall, I still need to give that a bash. So far I have a lvl 20 paragon (meh) and elementalist. I rather enjoy my lvl10 warrior, but I'd love to get him through a 'draknor run'? or some such to get kief armor from that outpost.

Check which one you like best over there ^^
I just got my primeval armor yesterdat <3 Now to start farming the rest of my 13 points for HoM ^^

I haven't seen you online in awhile though:? Too busy with skyrim?

Nightfall is actually quite quick in my experience - Factions is the fastest, but I had this nasty habit of dying whenever I tried taking my char through the EotN mission - because the damn mobs are all level 20 in there, and my char at that point is level 13 or some such. Nightfall's EotN mission is a lot easier though.

Prophecies is by far the longest - if you don't get run to LA, but you do need to get to LA first. With NF the entrance to the tunnels are still on noob island.

Prophecy has a life span of like 4-5 hours with doing certain (not all) main quests.
It is the shortest of them all - with so many shortcuts involved.

The rest are longer and imo I would say NF been the longest.

Really hoping though, that GW2 takes me away from FPS (BF3 even) and keeps me going for so many years same which GW1 did.

Battlefield 3 is fun ;)... BF3 and Skyrim would have to keep me interested until GW2 gets released.

Factions, is fast yes, but for me Nightfall is faster. I have said this a gazilion times here already (cant find it though..)

To get to Eye of the North fast:

Start a Nightfall character, jump into Kamadan (Lvl 5 is fine when you get first access to Kamadan I think), move to American server, spam LF ferry to docks, request the person also that you want to move to Tyria (LA).
Once into LA, move South to the outpost just below (De'Alessio Seaboard outpost). Stand at the edge of the gate where the monsters are on the other side of the gate. As far as I remember those things are level 11-15, when killed by the guards you get alot of XP, leveling fast. (because most of the time the outpost is empty... if not move to some international district).
When they are dead, rezone again... repeating. Once you are level 10 (or even if you want you can go to level 15), go to the entrance north for EOTN in Northern Kryta Province near LA. Alot faster than doing the quests for any of the others; took me less than 3 and a half hours to level 20 from start of character.

Meh. I wish. I still need to buy Skyrim - but I told myself no more buying games until I finish my current ones. Finished fable 3 last night, but I'm going to give back all the games that belong to my bro (+-50% of my stash) and then prolly take the skyrim plunge.

I'm just scared that it'll take up all my time though and I've FINALLY gotten back into reading when I got myself a kindle. I cancelled my WoW subs about 3 months back and gave all my gold away to mates and randoms in trade and instead of WoW dailies, I started gym dailies. Lost 12.5kgs so far. :D

Back on topic ... you keen to give me a Droknar run? :o Heck, at this stage i'd even settle for a LA run. :/

I usually take my heroes and flag them and take out my Fire Imp ( /bonus in town or outpost) for my personal protection.

I flag the heroes to aggro the enemies and move them away, I live they die, fair trade. Then it's just a straight(ish) run to EotN.

Well guildwars is more than worth it, especially if you are planning on playing guildwars2. You can get allot of stuff in guildwars2 by completing things in GW1 :) Hall of monuments i think they call it.

to be honest i didn't read all the pages so if this has already been mentioned.. sowwy
when you install GW there is a little tip to help you out. when u have your desktop shortcut click it and click new shortcut to make a duplicate shortcut. rename it image then click the shortcut, click properties and in the comand like example like c:programfiles/guild wars or whatever it is at the end on that line type -image mine is like this "D:\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image

then double click it and u will download all the files u r missing at once. otherwise you will download then load up in a town, then when u leave town u will have a download everytime u go thru portal.

@ykat that's a VERY awesome tip thanks man.

I've been getting really excited for Guild Wars 2. Need something to give me a break from World of Warcraft!

I went and bought GW1 the otherday even though I know it's crap, and I can now confirm that it is definitely crap. I just hope the time I'm putting in for those carry over achievements etc is worth it and that GW2 truly is amazing.

What exactly makes the game so crap? The achievements, to get 30 points will take a very long time. Cant really play a game that long that is crap for you. Btw, gw1 was more about pvp tbh, check that out, very very well balanced pvp, skill based not gear based.
