Vodacom 20GB for R499 'Mofaya' prepaid data bundle launched

Hmmm... I might just grab this.

Only question I have though is... when does the bundle expire? I don't exactly see myself using 20GB on my phone in a month.

The deal excludes a modem and the data bundle carries over until the last day of the next month.

This leads me to believe that that's exactly the case.

Woohoo Vodacom... Nice idea, bad execution.

Pre-paid data should always be valid for a minimum of 365 days >.<'

2 months. If you buy it the 1st Of December 2011 it'll expire 31 January 2012.

Thanks, I'm aware of that :)

Two months still isn't enough considering how often I use my phone for data; however, I use data enough for it to be a very tempting offer.

I'll see how I feel tomorrow or for the duration of the promo.

But why would you buy it the 29th knowing that?

Why would you put a two-month expiry date on pre-paid data?

I just think it's silly.

Don't get me wrong though, it's a major improvement especially coming from Vodacom. I'm just trying to figure out how to best convince myself that it's worthwhile for me to get it :p

Definitely a good deal, though I find the 2.4c per Meg claim to be a little dishonest. Then again, maybe it's just me...

Don't have the luxury of ADSL.
rather settle for iburp, wonder how this compares to 8ta and cellc. Funny thing though, it's more of a luxury to pay this crazy amounts for internet access over "don't have luxury of adsl".

It's much cheaper then renting an ADSL line. Initial costs is also low, you can buy a modem basically for R400.
For basically R250 a month you get 10Gig + A high speed internet access. What can you get for R250 with ADSL? Not even the line rental..

using mweb as comparator

384k uncapped - R349 + R158 = R507p/m, ±50 gig a month (up too 80/90 if I remember 384K's max correctly)
Data & ADSL line rental
R349 p/m All inclusive
*Excludes voice line rental

R507 p/m, and you can at least achieve 150 gig VS just 60 GB all for R1521 VS R1497

1 meg uncapped - R588 + R158 = R746p/m, ±150 gig a month ?? (up too 300 ??)
Data & ADSL line rental
R588 p/m All inclusive
*Excludes voice line rental

R507 p/m, and you can at least achieve 450 gig VS just 60 GB all for R2238 VS R1497 (dif R740, R740 more for 390 gig more)

And so on. Obviously this is continuous downloading, but even if you just use the 384k for half of that you would get 75 gig, that's 15 more that 60 for R24 more. So in fact it is more expensive going on that you will be using all 20 gig vs heavy use on uncapped 1 meg or uncapped 384k.

Iburst doesn't just stop after 3 months and quickly looking at them they offer 50gig for R465 (including the modem).

However with vodacom you would still have to buy the modem and that would make it actually R652 p/m ( modem for R459 ) and add that on top of the price:
499 + ( 459 / 3 ) = R652 p/m

:edit
I'm just saying, you are obviously more than well come to support and pay whomever you like.

It will only be once a large enough portion of the market is no longer willing to pay for substandard internet solutions that South Africa will finally be offered at the very least mediocre internet.

It's live; just grabbed 20GB of data via the *111# menu. Yes, I actually had over R500 in airtime :p

Let's see how this goes.
