PETA unhappy about Battlefield 3 rat killing scene

Yeah, we'll go on rat killing sprees, because video games make us emulate them in real life.
Hell, on regular occasions I see people dismembering aliens on remote space mining craft, because they played Dead Space.
Also, on a day to day basis I see people who run around collecting Wumpa fruit with animated masks floating around their heads.
It also won't surprise me when I see someone walking down the N1 Highway, mowing down zombies with a Boat-Paddle with chainsaws on each end.

You know, 'coz we're gamers.

I'm not affiliated with PETA in anyway and do not presume to agree with anything they do or allegedly do because I know nothing beyond what South Park has told me about them. However, I am vegan and I agree that depicting acts of violence against innocent, non-human animals does little to increase the compassion for living creatures that I feel the world really needs to foster.

Me: Against animal cruelty, pro steak and ribs.

I know what you are saying, but I do not think that people will go out and hurt animals just because a rat bit their finger in a game. (I do see understand what you are saying though.)

Ag they should just STFU, thats just too bad.

I hate these organizations where they are bored and have nothing else to complain about, I'd love to shove my fist down one of their throats to shut them up.

Wow, these organisations will latch onto anything no matter how trivial. I guess its par for the course for any high profile game. Who knows this may increase BF3's sales, reaching into that un-tapped market of people who want to kill a rat in a game...

Considering you're playing a game where you kill 100's of people with little regard for human life merely because they are the enemy, voicing concern over a rat stabbing is fairly moot. :)

I support organizations that try to eradicate animal cruelty, however, PETA is not one of them. They are the animal rights equivalent of a religious fundamentalist group in so far as they care more about power and notoriety than the beliefs they claim to defend.

It's okay too stab a guy in the throat, but don't you dare kill that rat! Wow, priorities...

people can voice their own opinions about the depiction of violence perpetrated against images of their likeness. nonhuman animals cannot voice their concerns. it is unacceptable in my opinion to view the killing of any creature that can suffer as anything other that horrifying.

Ja but at the same time, killing a virtual creature is not going to change the population of rat infestations around the world now. So quite frankly those tree huggers should take their pathetic opinions elsewhere

Context, dear friend, context.

You kill people in games based on the context of it being necessary for survival. So too do you kill animals, monsters, etc in games.

This ain't Deer Hunter. And even then, I'd much rather have people kills pixels than actual deer.

If you can't tell the difference between a game (or any other media, for that matter) and reality, you should be locked in a padded cell for the rest of your days.
