Since it is against human rights now days to run and sweat and to do sports in Schools so would you allow your kids to sit and enjoy gaming until they are old ?

Say what? I think it is just no longer forced on kids, which was always stupid IMO anyways.
If schools embraced e-sports the divide between the "cool" jocks and the "lame" nerds might dissipated. Not everyone is sporty. I hated sports, especially team sports but will gladly sit and play a game co-op or in a team.

So yes, if it was my child's choice to play games and enjoy it why the heck not?

Yeah kids now days are telling their teachers/Coaches its against their human rights to run or sweat , true story . The world is getting soft on the dam kids. Face it in SA , Rugby and Football rules it will take some time before the "cool" kids accept than the lame nerds are mere people as well. The reason i ask is im studying for Bio kinetics and all the long term problems kids develop with their backs are immense and its due to the fact that they only sit and play games or be pc heroes .

Solution: Find someone to design better chairs.

dude its the kids life really. Most of us here sat and played games most of the time. There is nothing wrong with it. And what about all the okes that get crippled bec of rugby? And all the sports injuries? You know how many people I know got ops on their backs and knees due to sports injuries.

And yes I would let my kid rather play video games than be crippled for the rest of his life. I would not treat my kid as a baby. yes I would give advice and make sure he is safe and all that but I would not force him to do anything he does not want to do.(unless its a job:p)

Dont get me wrong im not here to say its good or bad cause both sides has valid points , my question is Where do you find balance ? cause really doing nothing whole day and only stimulating your mind will have effects on the body and vice verca.

Everything in moderation. Kids playing 16hrs a day, no. But 2-4 hours a day cant hurt.

Yeah I agree. Even I have balance. I never use to play for 16 hours a day. that is just far to much for me.

I think maybe I play 4 hours a day(just bec of bf 3) usually only 1-2 a day.

Explain?

What institution, course, degree?

I'm 16, I have back problems aswell as knee problems, I usually play pc when I'm not busy with other more important things (e.g going out with friends, school)
Fun fact being though, my back problems stems from the fact that I cracked it on a speadboat ride a few years ago, ever since then my back has been screwed.
Knee probs stems from excessive hockey playing.
Some people just have bad genes/bad physical makeup.

If someone doesn't like sports or being active, so be it, it's their life, if someone wants to smoke or drink or whore around who are we to judge? :?

^Above is not directed at anyone in general,

Rolf Doing Sport and Exercise Technology (2nd year) , after the lovely 4 years i can go get my Bio kinetics gonna take me 2 more years but ahh well .

@Magna , Yes i agree with you statement but where do we as gamers find balance ? or lets call it Self discipline . Point is Playing outside like the good old days= Injuries at some stage . playing games with no physical activity = physical problems later in life (But at least playing games stimulates your brain)

When your arse cheecks start hurting from sitting to long its time to get up and do something else. It's you arse's way of saying "Oi lets have a break, I need some air!"

If you want to get machine fit with no injury(unless you're seriously stuffing around and doing inverted pin drops in the shallow end) then try swimming. It will change your life. ok thats a bit extreme but it changed mine.

Yes oom Perdjie. My kind(ders) sal van vroeg af gamers wees. But they won't be forced, nothing wrong with being a gamer from early on. IF that is what they want to do and excel in it, and really want to go competitive then I'm all for it, there is a lot of money in it too, specially considering SA is starting to wake up and as you yourself should know from Rage and the NGL there are huge prizes and sponsors. We've only been sponsored a couple of months and have already racked in thousands of rands worth of hardware and other goodies. It will only get more for the younger generation in the future as well.

If you are only pointing to the fact that kids these days just sit in their rooms and facebook and play games, never go out and play sports, then I have to say that I would like to see more children playing "outside", doing sport in school like I did when I was younger etc.

But in today's age with things going on, there is the "safety" thing as well. Just the other day a group of children playing rugby on a primary school's rugby field on a Saturday Morning, got beaten up and held at knife point. Also the daughter of a woman I know was out jogging, when a car stopped beside her, 2 men jumped out and tried to abduct her, pulled a knife and her and repeatedly punched and kicked her to try and get her in the car. I've spoken to countless parents that agreed that they would rather have their children indoors playing games, than out and about and unsafe.

So i guess the simple solution will be getting a wii ... Plassie im not saying this or that is good or bad , just want to know were do people find balance between gaming and life.

To be honest, if my kid wanted to play games for a living, I would allow it on one condition:

A) They stick to exercising regularly
B) It puts food on the table for his/her family one day (Which I doubt it will).
C) If it's not going to be their career that they pursue long down the line, they cannot come running to me for help.

Enough said :D
