Didn't enjoy how it suddenly barreled towards an end ..... they should have stretched it for one more episode and then they could have covered who the shadowy behind-the-scenes chaps were too ......... disappointed.

Yeah, it ended like there should be another episode. There is also now a paradox involved. If the virus came from the future because the people in the past kept a copy where did the original virus come from?
