Web Africa launches uncapped ADSL

I see your point - However, we have a high quality performance network to ourselves, so performance is not likely to degrade. Measures are in place to prevent the network from being pancaked.

Yeah, I guess nothing is set in stone. The only way of being sure about anything is to wait a while and see how things pan out. If after a few months people report no serious issues, I might even move over, because I can't deny that it is very competitively priced. Aside from the Lite and Just Surf type uncapped some ISPs offer, this seems to be the most affordable, home use Uncapped out there at the moment. It certainly can't do any harm being on the WA network if the majority of the online games I play is on Wage servers.

I'm with WA on a capped option. But its gonna take a better deal that this to get me to change from my second mweb uncapped account to WA. I love WA for their low latency...but really, that threshold is WAY too restrictive for my internet usage.
I just really hope this doesn't affect their capped accounts. Otherwise there'll be absolutely no reason to stay with WA.

I should add that I'm quite impressed that WA are even trying this. So hope it works out, but I refuse to be a guinea pig in the beginning. I'm quite happy as things are right now, so I'll just monitor everyone elses experiences with it, and see where it goes.
Hopefully it isn't like the whole R15/gig top-up cancellation thing. I signed up to WA loving that super cheap top up feature, then they stopped it. Not freaken cool.

Absolutely! That's the thing, you get the performance of a normal ADSL account with the uncapped freedom of a competitors uncapped offering. The good part about the WA uncapped offerings is that you don't get throttled to death. You get the low latencys and a decent level of quality and performance, plus the added benefits of being a WA subscriber.

The threshold is actually less restrictive than those enforced by competitors. While you will find that some competitors will halve your speed if you reach a certain point of data consumption. With this, you will only reach a threshold if the network is up to capacity.

This "Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)" != uncapped.

Period.

This is not aimed at WA directly, but to all ISP's.

And yes I am a client of WA.

Same can be said about 384K as 'broadband', 384K != broadband...

Anyway, Six I am looking into this (giving Mweb still a chance), I am more looking for better latencies to international ... Guild Wars / Guild Wars 2!, Heroes of Newerth European servers... would have liked a trial account to see if the pings are better than Mweb. (But you already stated that you guys dont offer that for the moment). Unlike others that download nonstop, I dont want to download every single KB on the internet; just stuff that I want and then gaming online. This is where every ISP fails IMO regarding uncapped + gaming, and I dont see capped unshaped accounts as the answer... because its not that affordable when you still want to use an uncapped account with it :/

Their usage policy is a bit steep for uncapped - at least they are open and direct about it and doesn't hide it in the small print.

I am still happy with Telkom uncapped though. Yes, believe it, cause it's true.

I am actually very interested in getting it though, Do you sign up for 24 months though or get invoiced after every month of usage? Also, if I am not mistaken, the 1mbsp line option will have a great stable connection and drop every 5minutes like 3G does. It frustrates the crap out of me.

I am getting it at the end of the month

I have tried M-Web, Open-Web, Afrihost, Telkom, Axxess, Web-Africa either normal capped or uncapped.

The best capped is Afrihost and M-Web uncapped. No rolling window/ % user/ all that stront. These 2 actually deliver what the customer pays for. I had good experience with my capped Web-Africa account but would never ever use an IS-based uncapped account. IS you suck...

Stats:

IS uncapped: throttling/shaping after 40gb - all not just P2P
M-Web: shaping/throttling during weekdays on P2P - not browsing/http downloads etc. (done 200gb sofar this month and no issues) Try that with your IS account (possible but not without issues)

You can't really say one product is better than the other, as experiences are subjective. Just look at the Mweb Uncapped thread on MyBB. Loads of people have issues with it. A lot of how well it functions depends on external factors, like how many people in your area uses the same product, how congested your exchange is, etc. An account that works for one, might not work for another. Just look at OpenWeb, back when I was on Standard Uncapped, I went through numerous accounts, some that worked, some that didn't. It changes from user to user.

Would the Freezone/Gamezone still included in these packages? So if I downloaded a game from the Wage Steam servers would it count towards that 6hr/7day limit?

Is all Web Africa account Unshaped (Mostly interested if the uncapped is unshaped)?
Im considering to try this due to the unstable pings in getting on mweb, some nights its unplayable and others its fine.

What u can do is start your download at say 10pm and finish it as 6am, u will only be subjected to those 2 hours before 12 that you download as 12-6 doesnt count towards your 6 hour or 7 day cap

Neeeecropoast!

Just want to say, I called it. I said that the Uncapped was going to degrade on WA after a few months, and even after being assured it wouldn't, it has. Just look at the WA feedback threads on MyBB. It's hellish.

*erm* I coined it first.

Lol, their uncapped itself is a lie. You can download as much as you want, as long as it is within a certain threshold, otherwise they cut off your access.
