PS3Prox

Hope i've posted this in the correct forum section.

I'm trying to transfer a 3.2GB game from my computer to my PS3 using PS3 Prox.

Problem is that it's taking extremely long to download/transfer. I left it overnight and it downloaded 400mb. I think the transfer rate must be somewhere around 20kb/s. My PS3 isn't downloading from the net because when i stop PS3 Prox the download on my PS3 stops.

I've added PS3 Prox to trusted applications on my firewall.

Both my PC and my PS3 are wireless and i'm using a Billion 400G router.

What am I doing wrong?

I don't have ethernet cable long enough to reach the PS3. I did try connecting a cable to from the router to the PC but there was no noticeable difference.

PS3 and LARGE WIRELESS TRANSFERS do not play well together.
Cable the PS3 to the router, not the PC...

If length is a problem, well shit, sorry... it is what it is!

Well it doesn't timeout or produce errors, just takes really, really long. Signal strength on the PS3 is always 80%+

Are you sure there isn't a problem with my configuration?

There is absolutely something wrong with your configuration.
You can't do a damn thing about it though... Here, try some magic. Go ahead and google the system requirements for most Wireless cards on the market... Yeah, too bad the PS3 cannot have it's memory upgraded.

Anyway, Like I've said: PS3 and Wireless do not play together all too well. Cable the PS3, you will notice a significant difference.

Ok, you are saying that you are transferring a game from your PC to your PS3, so Im still going to ask though, are you sure that the PS3 is not downloading through the PS3Prox? Reason is I have used PS3Prox for a year now (ok except last few months, my PS3 is not plugged in :D), I have always used it to get the download link location, then download the file with a download manager on PC. After that, I would start up PS3Prox to connect (WIRELESS) to my PS3, and update the game through the LOCAL file location.

I have done some GT5 updates, and PS3 updates this way, with the GT5 updates being 800+MB, and the updates went quite fast, (total time for download & update) its ALOT faster than first downloading through PS3 and update. Impossible for it to transfer that long for 400MB, although probably depends on what the quality of the wireless connection is to the PS3, you are saying 80+% so I cant think that would be the problem.

Didn't know that was possible ?

Yes, that is exactly why I'm using PS3Prox. In fact, if you look in the 'About' tab you'll see that that is exactly WHY the program was developed - because downloads on the PS3 tend to be slow. Although I'm using it because I downloaded the .pkg file at a friend's place.

So there is definately a problem with my configuration then?

Pity you are in Jozi, could have helped.

Might be your config? Make sure that you have all that setup correctly.

And why not get a long Ethernet cable? they are not expensive and always handy to have. Paid R80 for a 20m one.

Ok, I think I was unclear, because after reading it again now, I am also unsure what I tried to say lol :O Anyway, if you connect the PS3 with PS3Prox, and start an update (to catch the link), if you do not cancel the download that started on the PS3, it will continue through PS3Prox until you close the program.

So, I would say that that MAY be the problem, because at 80% signal (and assuming the connection is at least 54Mbps wireless), it should not be taking a whole night... if that were the case I would have had to wait for a PS3 update (that was updated/transferred from the PC through PS3Prox) I would have had to wait 3 hours for a ~150MB update...which took about 20-30 Minutes max.

I am not sure about config settings, I just setup an IP for the LAN for the PS3 wireless, connected with PS3Prox and PC with network cable to router (100% same router as yours). Only difference is that you are using both PC and PS3 wireless.

Okay so turns out I didn't set up PS3Prox correctly, the PS3 was actually downloading the game from the internet. I think I had the links wrong.

I set it up correctly now, but once I hit 'Start' I get an error saying that the program stopped responding.

Why does this happen?

Just as I thought it was downloading from the internet.

Try to run it as administrator? Other than that I have no idea why; even tried it now at work (ofc with no PS3 :p) just tells you that it could not get a connection to the PS3.

Ok well i'm still struggling to get this right. I read the help pdf and i'm sure I got the configuration right, but when I hit Start on PS3Prox the PS3 shows the following:

"Download Error
An error occured during the download operation"

I double checked the download link location, I used "Run As Administrator", I even tried creating a wireless hotspot using an HTC phone as the access point but it still gives the same error :/

Firewall.
Antivirus.
Try using shorter folder names in shorter trees.
Make sure not to rename the actual files.
NTFS restrictions: Make sure NOT to use Documents, Desktop, or other such user-specific folders.
Downloaded files could be corrupt, check MD5, CRC, or re-download again.

Uhmmm... can't think of more, but i'll keep em coming if anything else comes back to me.

Yep, all good suggestions, however renaming the files, if PS3Prox is setup correctly to specify which file to replace (internet file) with local file does not have an effect... I have about 5GB patches of games on my PC stores, renamed so I know for which game it is (.pkg files)

Maybe psychogenic the files is corrupt, in the sense that its the wrong region specific files for your PS3?
