The Skyrim Mod/Tweaks/Tips Thread

Hey everyone,

Well, I'm fully into Skyrim. Loving every second. But I am dissappointed with the graphics. Especially the hair and chainmail. So I did some looking around and there are various tweaks you can do in your SkyrimPrefs.ini file. I don't personally have the time to experiment with these yet so I employ you all... My minions: find me the most graphically pleasing settings!

Also for this thread, post what mods you are using, which have impressed you, which haven't etc. I used to be a complete mod whore and had over 18GB of mods for Oblivion.

well its dx9 after all.... unless Im mistaken?

last thing I read was that its mosly dx9 and some touches of 11. probably kept it like that for the console boys. Im sure high res packs will come out...

Wish the game was fully directx11 like batman that would be awesome!! ;)
 
Check out SkyrimNexus.

They have quite a few mods already and some predefined .ini files that you can use to optimize your game.
There is one cool mod, the "Obligatory Chain Mail Bikini". This replaces the default crappy under wear with, you've guessed it, a chain mail bikini.

There are also tweaks to improve the look of characters and NPC's.

Check it out and remember, new stuff is added almost daily or updated daily.
 
Yeah... Checked it out and like some stuff. but want to know what other people have. I'm actually sometimes a little offended by Skyrim graphics, and I'm running it maxed out. Peoples feet just look crap. I need the awe inspiring graphics like in Fallout New Vegas. What happened? Oh well. The gameplay itself is spectacular. Loving this game so much.
 
How is New vegas's graphics better then Skyrim? Vegas runs on a older engine, and it looked crap on my computer, with tweaked out graphics. Yet Skyrim looks amazing!
 
I've been a long time fan of the Nexus sites for all my game modding needs. Such a great repository of stuff. I will definitely be digging through and I'll do some articles too :)

That mod came out the same day as the game! People are dedicated to bring us boobies in games! Bless their lonely souls.

OT: I've just disabled mouse smoothing, and am waiting for a high res texture pack to get released. Other than that I think I did the shadow tweak thing that Nic wrote about in an article...

I've been putting together a list of Skyrim mods that I'm going to check out when I get some time. The MOD manager is probably something everyone should use. I've got quite a variety going here; maybe you guys will some appealing.

Since Skyrim is so new, expect many revisions to the various mods, and it might not be worth checking out some of the larger overhaul projects yet as they have only just got off the ground (which is why they aren't on my list). Still, I can't resist fiddling :D

That's a nice list, some of these I am already using though. I don't really enjoy all of them though. I'm trying to finish the vanilla game and then I'll move on to modding the crap out of it. Because when I'm finished with the vanilla game there'll be a crap load of really nice mods.

Agreed. I got one mod, then uninstalled it.

Waiting for better ones to come out. I will be playing Skyrim again and again and again, like Oblivion I played 7 times from start to finish. I also added that Nehrim at Fates Edge, but I want it in English, the German screwed me around a lot.

Oblivion I completed everything except 1 bugged quest within 246 hours. Skyrim, 50 hours in and haven't even made a dent in the game's main story yet. I see a new longest gametime ever (offline game).
 
Anyone tried that better performance mod? For some reason I'm getting crappy performance. The game defaults to high setting, but I'm getting about 30fps average and sometimes it dips below 20fps. I thought I should be able to cruise @ 60fps average @ high setting. My system: Amd 1055t @ 3.5GHZ, 5850, 8GB Ram.

Yeah, I don't understand why people would be using mods already. At least play it through once how Bethesda intended it to be played.
