Games not to buy list.

So lets use this thread to post games you have played and found to be so attrocious that you need to warn people not to buy it, whether it's buggy or just plain crap. Save us wasted money please :).

My first entry is PURE for PC, it has terrible loading issues that I can't explain and research shows that it's not an isolated incident. It gets so bad that after doing maybe three races the game will just freeze randomly at some point and you'll have to force the program closed.

So to all PC users, AVOID PURE at all costs!

Hey dude, I bought pure late last year/early in the year. It's an awesome game, and I finished it without hitches. Leaving the game dormant for some months, I was bored one day and reloaded it, and walla SUPER DUPER ULTRA LOAD TIMES.

And this without any hardware /software changes to my machine appart from drivers.

SO it worked perfectly for up to 2 months, then when I left it a while it started doing it. weird.

As Isengard mentioned, its not isolated, and I can't find ANY info on how to rectify this, Doesn't really bother me that much though as I play 2-3 tracks in a month or so now.

The game is wicked fun when it works I agree, but for me the fun got sucked right out of it solely because of it's technical issues. My advice, if you have a console then get it for your system.

Bab Boys 2 game (worst game in history)
Iron Man pc game (poor ps2 port instead of being a proper current gen console port)
Beijng 2008 (a poor ps3/xbox360 port)
resident evil 4 (great game but its a poor port of the ps2 version and no native mouse support instead of the great looking gamecube version)

This is going to be controversial, but stay away from God of War 1 and 2 unless you are a hardcore gamer with nimble fingers and lightning reflexes.

Your lack of talent with a controller doesnt make it a bad game
You should also stay away from DMC3 and Ninja Gaiden series ;)

Add to that my lack of patience and perseverance.

But moslty a lack of skill as demonstrated by my not making it past level 1.

:o

;)

We have a bite, captain.

Call of duty : World at war. Now I know that omegafenix is going to flame me for this but it is true. I've played the single player and it is OK, not great, just OK. In terms of the multiplayer - there is just someone not right with the gameplay and I cannot put my finger on it. I have played every single COD in multiplayer and it must be said that WAW is by far the worst. I know its kinda old and MW2 is almost upon us,but I think that this should be on the list of games not to buy.

I thought God of War 1 and 2 were awesome plus my sister was able to finsh the first one quite easily :)

LooooooooooL! I found the single player extremely lack, so much so that i didn't even finish it. As WAW is the first game i have ventured online with i can't comment on how it compares. I enjoy it, in the processe of buy MW just to see. Once MW2 and operation flash point 2 hits I am sure i will see these vaults clearly.

I would say Ninja Gaiden 2. I loved NG 1 on original xbox (dont know how many of you played it) Yes it had its flaws (camera, extreme difficulty curve) but it was playable. NG2 however hates the player. The camera sux, the ai cheats. It doesn't challenge you it just uses cheap unblock able tricks. Enemies will stand at a distance throwing explosive daggers, you can block but as soon as you attack the melee enemies you get pegged with 5 or 6 of these daggers and pop there you have to start all over again. I would advice people to stay away unless they love being beaten to a pulp by the cheap AI.

I would say not to recommend a game solely because you found it difficult (I would have said Devil May Cry 4 then). If it was cheap like Omega said about Ninja Gaiden 2 then okay. A game is not worth your money if it's riddled with bugs, just plain broken or sucks so bad it makes you want to cry.

I agree with you mate, Difficulty isn't a reason to not recommend a game. Some games, especialy the DMC and NG's of the gaming world love to hate the player. They use cheap ticks to make the game more difficult instead of creating an honest challenge. I am not saying DMC is one of them, im just using it as a reference to the genre. NG2 would have been a brilliant game had the enemy actually challenged you instead of just cheating.

Yeah, if it wasn't so old I would have warned against Jak II for ps2 but not outright said don't buy it. That game was so tough that I cannot begin to describe, but it was tough, not cheap (most of the time anyway). I'm sure if you google it you'll find most people probably didn't even finish it. I think in the developer commentary's for Jak 3 they made fun of the fact that most people probably didn't see the end :D. I did after shedding all my tears and nearly destroying my controller :p.

I believe a game should be challenging but not to the point of frustration. As soon as a player gets frustrated you loose the immersion effect and the fun ends, that player then is less likely to finish the game and or buy a sequel if one is ever made.

That's my feeling too. Now it's fine to make it tough but have at least a reasonable checkpoint system, but a game like DMC4 is SO SO SO hard and if you die you don't get a nice mid-level check point, oh no, it's from the beginning buddy, sorry for you :(. Poor checkpoints can break a game for me, it did DMC4.

Which is exactly how I feel about the likes of Total Annihilation and God of War. For me, both games got too difficult too quickly, which is why I dropped them.

I do tend to judge games subjectively ratrher than on their merits though.
:o

If I soon run up against a brick wall and the storyline [if there is one] does not encourage me to want to see it through, I stop playing.

Now Titan Quest, even though it was fairly pretty for an Action RPG felt bland to me. While I did finish it, it didn't have the same feewling as did Neverwinter Nights, Arcanum or Diablo. I'm being woolly minded here, I know.
