Online retailer ratings

Sybaritic

Bought from them twice so far (flash drives and hdds) and both times my orders were processed quickly and got my orders pretty quickly.

I'm happy with them.

I've bought a couple of items from them, and really, I've never ever been happy with their service. It always took really long to secure my order for me. And almost every time I had something delivered, it took forever (2 weeks average) to move 50km.
Enough of them though.

Takealot is pure awesome, my last order the one product wasn't in stock but I took a chance. They phoned me and let me know that they don't know when they can get this, would I mind if they replace it for me with another product. I went with the product and 10 minutes later my order was on it's way. Amazing work.

I really want to give Zaps a try, as moody is on this site and their range is extensive. Prices are good also. But this will happen when I have money. XD

Hey guys, on a somewhat related subject I am looking to start buying hardware online.
I went into my current bank to find out about it to discover I won't be able to get it.
Are there any companies e.g Prophecy etc that I could order something, deposit money into their account and then send off a deposit slip by fax?

Yip, you can easily do an eft. I have done it with prophecy.

I am sure zaps will work out the same.

Ah sweet thanks man. And shipping to Cape Town, is the next question, do they have their own couriers or do you have to make a plan with that, and who charges the least for shipping out of prophecy etc in JHB if they do the shipping themselves. Has anyone ever had anything arrive damaged? Are the insurance costs should you want to protect against that?

All shipping is handled by the online retailer. You won't have to worry about anything other than giving your address. They will deliver to your door or office or whatever. I have never received anything damaged and I have spent a small fortune on purchases. I think they do have insurance in place for such issues should they arise. :)

I use my debit card online so just check you may still be able to buy online.

Will do, however I spent all my money over the weekend so that will have to wait till I get paid. Thanks for the help spooner :)

There isn't a walk in store ratings section so this is the closest without creating another thread but,
I must say I was surprised over the weekend with Incredible Connection in Cavendish.
I went in to buy the advertised Seagate 2tb hdd for R999 but they had run out of stock.
The salesman offered the Samsung variant for the same price which was pretty cool. Big ups to them.

Everything was really excellent and pleasant up too the point where I needed to get my packet from fastway's pretoria depo delivered to my work. Now my packet was stuck there for a whole day, first time ever I had a packet stuck somewhere except for customs. Now they went with driver was sick and mine didn't make the truck on the first day. However it barely made it in at 2pm the second day waiting.

Through all this ZapsGaming was doing everything possible to get it sorted, They've always been top notch in this regard ever since I've used them. I will have to think twice before I use FastWay again for anything, this experience left much to be desired in their handling of the matter as well as how they operate and if they ever pickup their phones even if you are no1 in the queue for about 15minutes.

Will I still shop with ZapsGaming?
Yes they are one of my preferred online retailers.

In the end:
Zaps awesome, FastWay Curriers not so awesome.

Titan-Ice I've had two major issues. If you order online, you qualify for the price advertised online, but you HAVE to eft or cash by card instore. If you pay by card, then you get nailed with a significantly higher price. Apparently it states on their website somewhere, but still, I find it a stupid policy that they penalise you for wanting to pay by card. And then their was my whole SSD issue with it being faulty etc. One positive is that they do have a fairly comprehensive stock listing. Not recommended.

I've never had a problem with them and bought from them a few times. You get a very wide variety of goods to choose from at a good price. Very good after-sales support, always willing to help with problems , and will always replace the product it its faulty. The eft thingy is stupid but I always payed with cash. I would recommend them to Pretoria east residents , but if you are from another city shipping and the price increase on paying eft will cost you more than buying from a online retailer like prophecy . Otherwise Id give them 9/10.

Ordered my 24" LED today from comx computers. They have a HUGE array of all kinds of pc hardware and pretty much everything else. The prices are very decent . Door to door delivery costs only R45. If my monitor comes today or tomorrow 07/12/2011 I would
give them 10/10. If it comes friday 9/10 (they say 1-2 days for delivery but since Im in pretoria and they are in centurion its possible that they can deliver the same day yuo ordered, from 8-10 am approximately) . I would strongly suggest them for their price , cheap delivery, professional service and a huge choice of goods . The only con is that they dont reply to any e-mails other than quotes, stock checks, and refunds/damaged goods, but from what I hear they are VERY busy and have hundreds of orders everyday.

EDIT : Ok I iz stunned. ORdered and paid at about 8:30 am this morning. Got the monitor TODAY at 3:30 pm. Comx.co.za for the win

Great service and stupidly small price's. It's three guys so they might not be Flash Gorden fast but the are cheap. Only problem is it's only Cape Town for the time being.

Thats fine for me though :p

I've been shopping online since the very beginning of the Internet (Yes I know) and have bought from almost everyone before
Summary:
Kalahari
Notice of No Stock is only given AFTER payment (Had a few incidents with them where Items I ordered were out of stock and struggled to get a refund on the items)

Take2 / Takealot
Up to date and very good notification System
(One or two International Delays with Items ordered from USA)

Zaps
Helpful staff, Good Telephonic Support
(I've found then the easiest to deal with in regards to solving issues etc, although Prophet had a shipping issue I suspect it could have been solved with a Phonecall to Guy or Moody)

Prophecy
Delayed Notification System
(Overall not a bad retailer, cost effective )

Computersonly.co.za
Fast, Decent Pricing
(Issues are resolved quickly but Notifications are Delayed)

Have2Have
Good Notification system - Pricing is Inflated though
(Only when you really really can't get it locally)

Nivo
Inflated Pricing (Margins are Insane for almost everything)

ByteServe
Good Support - Offer to Beat any pricing

Sybaritic
Good Pricing, Friendly Support Staff
(Telephonic Support is excellent and includes Troubleshooting Service)

Rebeltech
Good Pricing, solid dispatch and Support Systems

The Rest of the Onine Retailers have either failed to impress or have been once off Purchases, places like Ikonic IT, Landmark, PC Int etc
While some of them were decent I've never been a return customer as the primary shops I use normally either have better pricing or manage to keep my business through decent service

Hi Zero

As we take Customer service very seriously I'd like to know why Landmark failed to impress you.
We all have issues at times with stock etc but I am very sticky when it comes to responding to Customer queries and complaints and like to sort things out asap.

Please could you send me a short email to [email protected] regarding the order?
I really would appreciate it as it helps us become a better company by learning from the criticism of our Customers.

Thanks in advance,
Andy

Hi Andy, I responded via mail

To clarify, and to make sure that there is no misunderstanding regarding Landmark Computers, I named your online portal in a group as either not being impressed or only making a once off purchase and not being able to rate the sales portal or sales team fully, in your case it was a once off purchase, not a dissapointing experience

As I said in my mail, by contacting me and asking about this it does demonstrate a commitment to even the public in terms of service that I'm sure most members of our community would appreciate

One thing that pisses me off about TakeAlot is that with their new site it seems they don't tell you what exactly is in collector's edition games. Looked at both Avatar and Trine 2's collectors editions, but neither has the contents listed. The old site always had it listed.

I have to agree with you, there's still a lot of errors and bugs on that site that needs ironing. Also even though they did add some new features, I sorely miss a lot of the older features. And then basic things like good descriptions and organization of items into the right categories are also missed.

Takealot
Have bought there many times, delivery is always fast and free - most of my purchases are above R350 - their email response is fast and always get a reply. Payment is also confirmed instantly. But as of late I find their pc components a little lacking, some hardware i can't find... but overall very good! 8/10

Cheapcodes.co.za
I know this is for software, but they are good! Almost instant delivery, had one problem with a code not working, about 20 mins later I recieved an email with the correct code and all was sorted! 10/10

ZapsOnline
Very nice catalogue of items. Payment also instant. However i'm now waiting all week for them to receive my item which they supposedly had. I've sent emails to [email protected] and [email protected] asking for any sort of info and as yet have no reply. Not even a "our supplier has/hasnt sent the item". Nothing. Also I was quite shocked at the delivery fee of R299 when i'm already paying R3500. At the moment i'm quite disappointed that I cant even get a simple status email from them. I really thought i would have had it by now. I was planning to buy the rest of my pc from them next month, but now i'm not so sure. Looking around for other online shops, seems Rebeltech is going to get my order from what I read. 5/10

Kalahari

Very good, Very fast delivery. Just their catalogue w.r.t pc components is small. 8/10

Order was delayed, but not much you can do since it is incoming from USA. Zaps did offer to refund, but I said it be ok to wait. Delivery was flawless this time no issues with the courier this time, it arrived early today. Overall I'm quite happy :)

Will I shop again with ZapsGaming?
Yes they are one of my preferred online retailers.

In the end:
Zaps awesome, FastWay Currier much better this time round.
