A bit of Help with my new GPU

Yeah dude BIOS updates is a scary experience, I refuse to update motherboards until it is absolutely necessary. I had an old ASUS M2-N32SLI deluxe board which NEEDED update for my newer cpu to work, turns out the BIOS release I tried (latest) was buggy. Broke my board, couldnt get it restored to a previous board, completely brain dead. I couldnt find a BIOS chip from anywhere and had to throw away the board. Since then Im not doing BIOS updates until I know its a stable release.

Hope for your sake the BIOS has updated, but at least your board is still functioning!

Im in Durban.. And you? Going to try out the card now.. Crossing my fingers :D

Damn ok not gonna help lol, Im up in Jhb.
Good luck and let me know what happens.

If it still has the same issue, It could be a dead card. The chipset just doesn't like the 500 series or The psu has a faulty 6pin plug

Posting from my iPod now. Seems to still have the same problem. I also noticed something now. There's a red light above the gpu (on mobo) saying "AMT LED1" don't kn

You're def gonna need to get that card in a different machine to test.
It could be any number of things. I would say its most likely a dead card but I can't be certain of that.

My current (:o) 8600GT requires no external power, everything fires up via pciX. Silly question, but are you sure your new card doesn't need an external DC voltage connector from the PSU?

The PSU won't be the issue here because even if it is underrated it'll power up the card etc just fine and you'll only start noticing issues when the card/hard drives are juicing it.

Lastly, if it's stuck on the load screen it could be prompting you that it's not detecting a video output source. Go back into bios and disable the startup splash screen so you can see your console. Then press and hold F8 when it boots and if the safeboot menu pops up, select basic vga settings. This will boot the pc in its lowest settings and it might just detect the new card/screen which was previously hampered by whatever issue (drivers etc.)

It's worked for me before, but there's always some new issue.

+1 to the oom xD

Yep I have a six pin power cable connected. Fan is spinning fine. I would disable splash but my machine is stuck at the splash screen. Won't allow me to press f2 to enter bios. Nothing happens.

Which is why I didn't bother mentioning safe mode xD
Get the card into a mates machine, or take it to a pc shop and ask them if you could please test it in one of their rigs.
I was reading something on the EVGA forums earlier, stating that the 5xx cards really don't like older chipsets, so it might be that. It could be the psu or it could be a dead card.

Ya I guess I should take it back to them. Anyways, I'm tired of taking the tower out and putting it back again xD

lol Sorry bud, wish I could do more, but alas you're down in Dbn and although I am all for helping people xD I can't drive down for that lol.

Sorry to open up this thread again but some sort of development has occured :) I opened up my PC, took out 3 sticks of RAM (out of 4) the cd drive and the hard drive. It got past the BIOS with the new GPU connected. So I figured that it is a power issue, the card needs 400w, my PSU is 500w.

Just before I could switch it off, POWER SURGE! :( I heard two gunshot like noises and smoke came out of my PSU and UPS. Managed to get a new 750w PSU but still no luck with the GPU, same problem at the BIOS. :(

Trouble shoot by adding each memory stick and dvd to see which is holding it up. You might find a ram compatability problem.

Have you taken the card back to the shop? Let them test it?
If not, then do that 1st thing tomorrow morning.

Sounds like there might also be an issue with the ram? Are these Corsair memory sticks? if so then I am 90% sure that's the problem.

lol yip I had 2 sets of Corsair ram do the exact same thing to me not too long ago.
Both were faulty so yeah seems like that might be the issue right there. Mine would boot but wouldn't post at all.
