LOL, saw this Easter Egg

So I tried it on Google Maps, and it does do that, which is awesome.

Even more awesome is that it actually gives you directions. Oddly, it's from Stutterheim near East London (The Shire Eco Lodge), to Beyerskloof Winery in Cape Town (Why they think that is Mordor is beyond me)

It's not that odd when you consider that J.R.R.'s dad (let's call him Mr. Tolkien) was stationed in Hogsback during the war and J.R.R. (let's call him Junior) based the shire on how Mr. Tolkien described Hogsback in his letters to Junior. Hobbiton is a children's camp in Hogsback.

Also, if you go to hogsback (Between Stutterheim and Alice) the place is filled with Lord of the Rings references. They've literally whored the town out after the movies hit. The Shire Eco lodge is probably one of those whored out places capitalising on the movies.

Ya, the thing that's odd to me is really that they think a winery in Cape Town is Mordor, not so much that a place called The Shire etc gets picked. I don't know that the route is intentionally built in as part of the easter egg because it only shows the route if you look at google.co.za/maps, not if you look at google.com/maps
