ChessConquest - official discussion thread

Ok thanks... I did not notice that. I thought I saw that he still have plenty timebank left when I checked, but then again, my memory is not the most reliable to go by.

By the way, that foreign guy came back and we're cool now :)

Awesome stuff ;) It is definitely tricky to chat with someone that doesn't speak English.

By the way, started looking into a messaging system that you can use to send messages to players without playing a game. Will keep you in the loop on the progress (it is a bit more involved than the other features we add, so might take a little bit longer to do it properly).

Anyone else getting 'spammed' by requests from fanard? Every day or 2 he/she sends me an additional 6-8 game requests.

It's cool thanks... we can wait for v2 for that.

He does seem quite eager. I get a lot of requests too. Perhaps they have more time over there in general and can thus play more often.
I must say though, the guy is quite good plus he plays all the games that he requests. Unless there is some major internet crash in their country, I doubt that anyone will be able to win him on a timeout victory :)

Ok, I retract my previous statement about fanard... the guy is an ass.

I basically told him during one of the games that I cannot take on any more games right now (struggling to keep up with the current ones as it is), I'll play him in a week's time... so the idiot insulted me. Didn't know it at the time... had to get the insult translated first :)
Anyway, won't be accepting challenges from him anymore. I can take the insult but I'll pass on the crappy attitude.

Could it be possible that the translation was at fault and not fanard? I've spoken to him as well and he cannot speak English at all. I've seen a couple of times when I tested Afrikaans -> English that the translation sometimes spits out completely incorrect sentences.

Coming in version 2 will be the ability to block players. For now the easiest will be to just delete the games that you don't want to play. You don't even have to give your opponent a reason why you deleted the game, since it is your choice if you want to accept a challenge or not.

Another thing, I might have to bow my head in shame again. There was a minor problem in the code, in that if you refresh your browser directly after you challenged someone, it created a second challenge automatically. It could be that his browser was set to auto-refresh or something, that caused lots of games to be created, even if he only wanted to challenge one game. Although the fact that he is playing all of his games, suggests otherwise.

Not sure... Google couldn't translate all the words so I had to Google it (search engine) and came across a site called "common Romanian curses and insults" and that is where I got the rest of the translation.

It's ok though. I'll just reject his challenges and if we end up in tournament against each other, I'll just kick his butt in silence :)

I don't think he minds all the games... he has like 12 pages of "games in progress" :)... I only have 4 and I'm struggling to not have it interfere with my work (and failing). Could be because most of my games are Speed Kings though :)

I agree. Since it's inception, I think one or two days have gone past that I have not made a move on chessconquest. I have never had a timeout claimed against me.

fanard challenges me (and makes timeout one day, which I did not notice, my bad). I go to bed two days ago, thinking I've made all my moves. The next morning he claims timeout on both. I mean, damn, you have every right to timeout somebody, but at least give him a chance (I don't like claiming timeouts - does not feel like a real win to me, I normally give ppl a couple of days to respond, and then only timeout when I see it looks like they not comming back)

If he literally waited an hour or two I would have moved.

but clearly this guy is not here to enjoy a nice game of chess, just to see how quickly he can climb up the rankings.

each to his own I suppose, but it pissed me off. I will also not be accepting new challenges from him.

fanard challanged me 2 games. I accepted the one, and deleted the other. couple of hours later he challenges me for another (one) game. So either he changed his browser refresh (doubt it) or he just wants to play two at a time (and though he accidentally only challenged me to one)

Welcome to MyGaming Vuade. :)

Eh and your story about the foreign guy was funny ViperGTI. I'm glad that he's back and that he realizes you didn't insult him.

One morning I got up and quickly went to check on my games and saw two new games (can't remember who the person was that challenged me, also a foreigner) and in the comments the guy was saying: "Move!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". Haha he must have challenged me the previous day.

I wonder how many people that join do not understand that the site is created to have lots of time to make a move.

Haha... I sometimes do that when I see someone's timebank is running out on tournament and it is someone I want to win (or lose) against the old fashion way. :)
Not that it helps though cause if the person doesn't log in, he doesn't see the message anyway... it's the thought that counts though (or so I keep telling myself)

Very nice yotta! That's a nifty feature. Are you going to take a break from developing the site over the holidays? Don't want you to start hating it and sometimes a break is good. :)

Whew I was completely destroyed by miopat. He brought on a pawn storm early in the game and I wasn't prepared for it. Then he forced my moves and in the end I made a terrible blunder and lost my queen. What's the best way of dealing with a pawn storm where a player just bring up 4 pawns? I'll have to go google that.

That Russian guy is good... I think he might be one of the best players here... Would be interesting to see a game between him an Tallfred and Jakkals.
He is currently playing Jakkals... I'm checking in on that game every now and then.

Doubt that I'll ever start to hate it, since I'm way too excited to get version 2 out :) But I will probably take it slower over the December break, so that I can start next year well refreshed.
