AMD 7970 Leaked Specs

Leaked specs of the AMD 7970 GPU's
As far as I know these are pretty reliable..and OMG they make for some mouth watering reading!!

radeonHD7970_slide_1.jpg

As noted, the new HD 7970 is based on GCN architecture, features 32 CUs and 2048 ALUs. The card works at 925MHz for the GPU and features 3GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 5.5GHz and paired up with a 384-bit memory interface. According to the slide, it packs 32 ROPs and 128 texture units. The most surprising detail from the slide is the idle board power that is set at below 3W. The max board power is at below 300W thus the card need 8-pin and 6-pin PCI-E power connectors. The card will pack one DVI, two mini DisplayPort and HDMI outputs.

Amd also revealed that they have started shipping the cards and official date of release was set for the 22nd of December. So stoked!!!!! :D:D:D

Edit: Should add, expect quite a price bump on these...Probably in the range of current Nvidia GTX580's..So yeah they won't be cheap, don't expect them to be xD

Expect to be seeing my cards for sell soon :P

Although I like my Trifire setup, I'll wait till a 7990 becomes available and I'll grab that and the 7970.

Cheapest I could find it online was a Asus 7970 listed at €525

Although I reckon the price will drop by another €100 by launch day, Most of the shops advertising Pre orders are just looking to make a killing before the cards hit the market.

Scary thought though..even at €400 that's roughly R4000 that's excluding the mark up our "wonderful" Sa suppliers will add...So I am expecting it to sell for around R5000 for a Gigabyte or Asus card and around R4400 for a Powercolor/Sapphire.

Which is a lot.

LOL Hope that was sarcasm xD
That's more the price range of the flag ship dual gpu 7990 which will only be available around march 2012.
Those will probably retail at anywhere from R6500 up to R9000 depending on brand ect.

At a 100% it would be better than 2x7970's :)

But its probably nvidia trying to prevent some amd 7000 series sales

Yeah their usual dirty tricks, sad for them though lol I know the 7xxx will sell like crazy and as you can see in the 1st post there is good reason why it'll sell like hotcakes.

the 7970 is a little pricey i think.

HOPEFULLY some nice carb deals soon:)

what are your cards going to go for:P

It is a bit pricey, reminds me of when the 5870 was launched. Was a pricey card but still runs super strong. So might be worth investing in the 7xxx series. My cards are being sold to a mate of mine for R5600. :p

I have inside info that the 7970 will retail for R4999.

NOW, this question is : Do I sell my cards now and get 2 x 7970 OR what for a 7990? Hmmm... Decisions decisions.

@ATIBOY : Sell my cards for me please :P R8k for 6990, 4k for 6970. Remember, these are non-branded, bios modded, direct from AMD factory cards. You can't buy them off the shelf :P

Yep, I'm still happy with my 5870 and I was lucky enough to get it for R4k while most were going for R5k.

The 7970 is looking to be an awesome card - if only I had the money these days :)

5870 is still one of the greatest GPU's of all time. Still holds its own in any and every game.
I own 3 lol xD
