ChessConquest - official discussion thread

Man oh man. So the whole Fritz 13 thing was a failure. Got home from spending Christmas day at family and tried to install it. First thing that I notice is that the disc is a writable disk with the blue bottom instead of the professional silver one.

Then, after inserting the disk the pc just freezes. Cyclic Redundancy Error. Tried it on 3 different machines. :(

It was a pain to get hold of and now it's a pain to try and get a working copy. I swear some days I envy the pirates.

That sucks, sorry to hear - merry Christmas in any event!

Nice win against fanard, I'm playing so many games against him and pretty much losing them all :(

Thanks Fivel. He is good and I don't know how he manages to play so many games at a time and still play so well.

I've been doing a lot of chess studying over the last couple of months and it really feels like it has been paying off. I've also been doing a lot of tactics training and it makes a huge difference!

I train tactics at: http://chesstempo.com/ but there are other sites and software that do the same thing.

These long weekends just mess up my playing :/
Timed out on 4 matches, i just can't seem to remember to log in when im home

Yep, these Romanian dudes are persistent - first it was fanard and now elis, seem to like to play many games at the same time.

And they all like playing games with 1 day move limit and 0 days timebank. I'm now rejecting all those requests and then I create new requests with a 2 day timebank. First slow them down to my level and then try beating them :)

It is quite hectic having 10 or more open games, all with 1 day only to move... at the end of the day you spend more time playing chess than anything else. I haven't lost any games due to timeout though, but only just.

Great advice, this 1 day time bank is like playing speed chess.

Same here. In the future I'm not going to enter the Speed Kings tournaments. I keep having to put myself on holiday just to take a break and think on some games. Fanard challenged me again but I deleted his two games and challenged him back like you said ViperGTI. That timebank is essential.

i must say, i'm really digging chessconquest! :-) it has reignited my love and passion for the brilliant game of chess

Sigh now there are 3 from Romania spamming these 1 day games, I can't be bothered to delete the game and recreate it. The players I'm referring to are fanard, elis and now Daniel.

Drool at this http://www.houseofstaunton.com/ , does anyone have a Staunton chess set?

There is just something about a Staunton set that enables me to concentrate on the game...

Bonus free advice:
If you want good results, make it a practice to always set up the position on a real board with a Staunton set, not some other fancy type. Then when you have decided on your move, make that move on the board, then turn the board around and look at it as your opponent will. Now ask: Is there a checkmate? Can he take my Queen? Can he win one of my other pieces? Is there some other easy win?
Only then make your move on Chessconquest... You will be so glad you did.

I just lost to a person named daniel. He claimed a timeout victory on BOTH the games he challenged me too. Really annoyed by this. I only moved a single piece too
