Heh ... Golden Boy is one of the classics ...

But ... let's see - comedy - I'm assuming you'll want to avoid too much sappy romantic themes?

You can give Working!! a try, which is set in a family-restaurant with some very strange staff - along with that is MM!, which has similar themes but is more high-school themed. Also Minami-ke! - which is the daily life of three sisters living on their own.

Another more recent one worth watching is Ika-Musume - where a Squid Girl (literal translation of Ika Musume) decides to invade and conquer humanity as revenge for their pollution of the oceans. She manages to get as far as one beach-house ...

Just finished Steins Gate and must say I thought it was awesome. Nice to see an anime that makes you concentrate on what is going on for a change again
