can sumone plz help me with this.
my graphics is installed properly, yet when i turned my pc on, the monitor turns on but stays in a black screen as apposed to displaying the name of the card, it just gets stuck. the 1st screen that supposed to appear is the 1 showing my card's specs and then continuing to the post screen and so on.. but i doesn't get past the 1st (blank) screen, and i know this cos when i hit the power button, it turns off immediately, without me having to hold the power button in. all power connected are inserted where they should be, as they normally would when the card's actually working.

if anyone can help me with this ? plz help!:(

It could be any number of things. Could be faulty ram, ram that isn't seated properly, could be you're PSU, could be the graphics card in fact it could be pretty much anything xD

List you're system specs, as in exact specs mate and then we can go from there.

AMD Athlon Dual Core 4600+ 2.41Ghz
3.00Gb ram
450Watt EZCOOL PSU
Forsa GeForce 9600GT OC
500GB HDD
Windows 7 64-Bit OS

Ok the fact that it turns off immediately lets met believe that it's a faulty power supply or the power supply is to weak to handle the gpu(if it's a new gpu and has done this from the start).

Hopefully that helps.

Maybe try and get a mates psu or put your gpu into a mates pc and see whats happens.

ive been using this PSU for a few months now... it was working perfectly fine yesterday, until i came back from somewhere, did some shifting of stuff on my table top when i saw the monitor's screen just go blank, so i thought it was the dvi connector at first, gave a few twists and wiggles but nothing happened. ive actually given up hope trying to get this damn thing to work. my pc's now just a workstation ! no longer what i had it built up for. :(

This is probably a stupid question, but have you taken the card out and put it back in again (unscrewed it, unseated it, put it back in, screw it back in). Sometimes when plugging in a DVI connector (or if it is bumped) the card may move ever so slightly and become slightly unseatted (even though it appears to be 100% OK), causing a bad connection with the pci-e slot. Doing the above should hopefully make sure the connection is ok

I have done maintenance on my PC, cleaning fluff and dust out and so on, resulting in me having to remove components for a better clean. But, no matter how many times I insert the card (properly), the problem persists.

Remove the ram and then boot the pc, check if it boots.
If not put the ram back in making sure its seated properly, start the pc check if it boots.
Remove the gpu, plug you're screen into the onboard graphics card and see if it boots then.

Still sounds like a PSU issue to me.

Hey SoC,

I am a little confused as to where it is stopping. Does it show the post/bios screens at all? Does the screen display anything?

When the problem first occured, had you just changed any hardware? Had you changed any software? Any alterations at all?

Are there any sounds when you first power your pc on? There is often a short beep, if there are any long beeps there could be issues.

Are all your fans spinning up? Pay special attention to your CPU, GPU and PSU fans. These MUST be spinning.

Bumping the CPU can also unsettle the thermal paste that is applied to it, causing overheating

General troubleshooting tips:
-uplug everything
-gradually reinstall items, with hdd and ram being the last to install.

Otherwise, it is very difficult to diagnose over the internet. The things I have mentioned are quite general and it is often best to actually take it into a properly qualified and equipped it tech who has error code readers and other cool gadgetry.

If you answer some of my questions we can try our best to help you and you may learn something to help others in the future.

Also remember to remove the power cable from the wall socket/ups and to try your best to avoid static when working inside your case. It may seem silly but these things damage components way too often without people realising.

I don't see any bios/post screens at all!

When I've turned the PC on, it's supposed to display something like:
"GeForce 9600 512MB
DDR3 ....................
............................
............................"

That is supposed to be the first screen I see. Then the Post and Bios screens are supposed to appear on screen, but nothing...

Instead, it then screen(monitor) turns on from a black screen to what appears to be trying to show something, which instead turns out to be a 'light-black' screen (as if to imply... something's supposed to be appearing on screen, but no picture's able to be shown).

I've unplugged everything, and reinserted them slowly but surely... Testing as many possibilities as I can. Even tried attaching a different HDD to see if it wasn't maybe conflicting... but still nothing. I also assumed it might've been the DVI to VGA connector, but that wasn't it either.

Wish I could've made a small video of what it is that's happening on-screen. Would be better explained that way.

Does the mobo have onboard graphics? Do you pergaps have an old dedicated one? Just to test.

If not, I would try it with just the CPU and listen for beeps. Then add the gpu without anything else.

If you have the same problem then it is none of your other components. From there it is really difficult to troubleshoot without replacement parts or error code readers. To me the most logical is a CPU or Mobo fault. I would try minimal components just to get it running.

You can test the gpu by putting it in any other PC with PCIe but it is not as common that a graphics card stops a PC from booting.

The onboard card works fine. It's... the moment i put the card in that the pc doesn't load further than a failing black screen.
