Anonymous targets Sony (again)

Anonymous Has No Plans To Attack The PlayStation Network

Anonymous recently released a YouTube video threatening Sony for supporting SOPA. They have since clarified that if this attack were to take place, it would be focused on Sony Executives and not the PlayStation Network. Apparently, there were those among the hacker group who wanted to attack the PlayStation Network, but they concluded that they would not attack PSN. The plan now seems to be to post personal information about Sony executives online, deface Sony's website with anti-SOPA propaganda, and make copyrighted Sony media available for free from links on Sony's assorted websites. Since the threat was brought up, Sony has scaled back its support of SOPA, which may have been a result of Anonymous' threat, and it could also be enough for Anonymous to drop the whole thing.
Off of GameInformer

Am I missing something. The MyG article made it sound alot more... insidious...

As long as there is no interruption in my Skyrim gaming, they can do what they want. I can do with 2 free games again :)

I used to laugh that PSN was getting hacked all the time just because I'm an xbox fan. But really, these guys are like terrorists (be it cyber terrorists) - and their real victims are the general gaming public. Its freaken BS!
While I'm not for all these hardcore anti piracy laws, and ridiculous sentences a select few are getting for being caught - the way this terrorist group is acting just gets under my skin.

If your read the article on GameInformer you would have noticed that Anonymous has clearly stated they will not be attacking the PSN network but rather the Sony Executives. Since this threat was made Sony has significantly reduced its supported for the so called SOPA thing. Its the same as people protesting against governments, once it happens once, i.e Egypt and Lybia, it will keep happening; Occupy Wall Street etc.. While I do not always agree with Anonymous or their methods they do get results and whether for better or worse will encourage other people to take similar stances.

Officially they call themselves Hactivists but as has been true in the past; one mans freedom fighter is another man terrorist.

Yes, I know they said they aren't going to attack PSN but that wasn't the point of my post, I just said I used to laugh at what they did previously. My point with PSN was that it was not the right way to go about it, as it targeted us, the general gaming public and that is unacceptable. Now they change their tune (barely, as some still wanted to attack PSN), and we all have to accept and be happy with them now? Liking them to anti Gaddafi forces?! Whaaaat?
They are NOT suddenly 'freedom fighters'. There's a fine line between freedom fighters and terrorists, and when they took down PSN (be it in the past) they crossed that line, and in my opinion they are terrorists.

They not attacking the PSN network that is great, but why the attack on Sony Execs also? Think about it would you want to be targeted just cause you work for a big corporation that someone didn't like... I wouldn't. And yes they fighting for something good, i think but it seems they use the wrong method even if they do get results. And i am frankly bored of them, and the anti piracy thing would go away if piracy came down which i doubt it will... and companies are not going to make games cheaper cause of piracy. see no one wins.

Good that they are leaving PSN alone since that would do them no favors in the eyes of any PSN users that would be and have been affected by an outage.

Hence one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist. Its all a matter of perspective. And Why not liken them to Anti-government protesters or anti-capitalism protesters? Each group protest against something they feel strongly about, Anon does the same for a cause they feel strongly about. From my perspective its all pretty much the same.

There is a really good episode on this topic over at Extra Credits

Well they said they will hack/attack/DDoS Facebook too but nothing happened, then again they really do not like Sony.

I think the key thing to remember that by its very definition Anonymous can be anybody. I could photoshop a V for Vendetta mask onto a suit and claim to be a member of Anonymous. So a splinter group can say "We will bring down Facebook for Lolz" while another splinter group says "No if you/we bring down facebook I wont be able to play farmville." If you think about thefact that they are a faceless organisation yet often take stands against the "faceless" corporation is rather ironic.

Fair enough, I get where you're coming from. Its just the more I thought about what they've done, the more I disagree with their methods. Each to their own like you said.

I dont agree with them or their methods either but sometimes, whether by design or by accident, good may come of what they do. SOPA is a bad idea and if the power players need to be scared into not supporting it, Exitus Acta Probat.
