I'm trying not to be to aggressive or over the top here - but this thread contains some of the worst hypocrisy. We live in a country where racism is a spectre that just refuses to go away, and then we have folks saying things like "Japan is a pedo nation".
Really enlightened approach there - not to mention that they base their opinion on a game that was created by Westerners.
Also - perception. Lots of Westerners always question why anime characters don't look Japanese. When you go up to a Japanese person and ask their opinion, they'll tell you anime characters look Japanese and not Western.
Also - the comment about the character looking 10 or 12. The game takes place in a high-school, so obviously she isn't. If the game follows standard conventions - she'll be 16 or 17 - whatever her appearance seems to suggest.
But my main point is that the accusers need to stand back and realise that we're not all a bunch of innocent little lambs here. There are games/movies/books etc that are just as horrendously fucked up in approach as anything you'll find in Japan (2 girls one cup anyone?)

I am going to go with Shadow on this one. This is not a reflection of Japanese society in general and there are plenty of posts in this thread that point to that. The country and culture is not a training ground for child rape and all the crazy stuff that they portray to be doing. The Japanese do have strange things over there, but as far as children go, the Romans of ancient times were way more worse, and yet people respect them a lot more. This game was made by some dudes on 4chan, the armpit of the internet. There are way worse things that happen on there, but I leave them to it.

Again - it isn't. The idea originated there. Story, concept, characters, everything was done by the 4chan team.

Since high-school in Japan means grade 10 to 12 - that means the characters are a minimum of 16. Based on the info I find, the students are mosly 3rd years - so ... 18. FUCKING LEGAL AGE IN ALMOST EVERY COUNTRY YOU CARE TO GO!!!

Two important points can be taken out of this:

@Shadow is right in saying that the issue here is not solely Japan's fault. This has nothing to do with Japan apart from the fact that it takes place in Japan and it has an anime style to it. That is no more fair than saying Russia murders western tourists in airports because of Call of Duty.

I chat lekker to you guys in other threads (both of you) and you both appreciate different aspects of the same art form (venom with the comic books and shadow with the manga). I am sure that you guys will get along quite nicely if you debate about the correct things and do not insult each other.
