New Keyboard (Gigabyte Aivia K8100 being eyed out)

Hey guys
I am looking at buying my first gaming keyboard. I am seriously considering the Gigabyte Aivia K8100 in black. Anybody have any experience with this or could make any other worthwhile suggestions.
I am only interested in aesthetics and back lit keys and hopefully a long cable. Hence the reason why the Gigabyte is tops of the list. I am getting it for R625 which, based on research seems to be a really good price. I am not too keen on spending much more then that since I have my gf's birthday at the end of the month so saving for that is crucial.
Thanks for the help

I have a old Microsoft Sidewinder x4. Best keyboard I ever bought, long cable, nice soft touch keys and backlit. Though I got it new for R400. That's some time ago though and I doubt it's still on the market.
Back to the Gigabyte, I've also looked at it a couple of times. It looks quite nice. Go for it!

My housemate has the x4, also paid around R400, and it's a great keyboard; I'm pretty envious of it.. I'm sort of looking at a new kb as well now, and the Razor Blackwidow, the X4 and x6, and the Logitech G110 are the ones that stood out so far, though I think most are a bit more than ~R600.

Yeah, the x4 was one of the keyboards that I was considering before buying my i5 upgrade, then I found the gigabyte and found it to be a much prettier keyboard.

I've never been partial to designer keyboards. I've always found the average keyboards to be fine. As long as no keys stick and everything is spaced properly its fine for me.

Well at the moment I have a logitech media keyboard. The keyboard is nice and all but it isn't wow. It is also still PS2 (so I need to use my adapter cable) and the cable isn't that long. Backlit keys is something I have been eyeing out for a long time since I like playing and watching movies with lights off (to avoid the glare on screen) so having backlit would really come in use.
And a really fancy looking keyboard, hell why the f%*k not lol

Ps2 ftw!!! No key press limitations like USB :/

The black widow is nice. Mechanical keyboards are better in almost every way to dome keys. The cheaper ones are often clicky (make a noise when keys are pressed) though.

Please tell me you are not getting the bright yellow one? the plain black keyboard looks quite nice but the coloured ones are a bit TOO Much...

Well it has anti ghosting or something like that but anyways it has a 20 key simultaneous limit which is pretty good, can't picture myself pressing more then 20 keys at once unless I am playing a racing game and get really peeved coz the car won't turn when and how I want it to lol.

@Wenzdayz, Yeah its the black one that I am eyeing out. I quite like the all black look on my pc

Well thanks for the help and suggestions everyone. I went ahead and ordered the Gigabyte K8100.
I think overall it does look better and is well priced according to my budget. X4 and X6 just didn't match up in the aesthetics department imo.
Will be getting it on Friday... Yay can't wait

I might actually get myself one too. I was looking for a X6 but no one stocks them anymore. Thanks for the headsup. :)

Good luck with the purchase, im worried about buying gigabyte stuff myself when its k/b's or mouses. bought a gigabyte m8000x mouse and a few other odds and ends and must be honest im not very happy with it. perhaps its just an unlucky series of purchases(although i have always sworn by gigabyte and love there stuff, i just seem to lately not be getting decent stuff from gigabyte). I have also been looking into a new gaming keyboard so let me know how this one feels although in that price bracket i have been looking at the razer lycosa which a friend had when i lanned on the weekend and i must admit im really really amped to get 1 as it was just a beauty and felt really nice for the time i played on it.

The Lycosa was one of the keyboards I was considering however it doesn't have the bottom bit for the wrist, 100 bucks more expensive and slightly not so good looking. I know Razer is the better brand so it would last longer but how long does a keyboard last anyway, 5 years or so?

I would of gone with a Logitech keyboard

#justsaying.

The cheapest Logitech that I saw was the Logitech G110 which was R800, so it was kinda out my price bracket. I also prefer to have the wrist section that the Gigabyte has.

once you have your keyboard, post back with your review
would love to hear(read) what your thoughts are on it.

IF youve made up your mind go for it.

No point getting another keyboard and all you think is : " I shoudlve gone for the gigabyte"

I personally dont like the Gigabyte one. Ive got fairly large hands and it jsut didnt feel right. For me the spacing on logitech keyboards is perfect.

My hands makes me unable to paly on any game pad like the G13 as the keys are just to close to each other .

ps: By large i mean fat. :D

I tried the challenger liked it and thought that it is a good KB :D

I read a few reviews on it, but it didn't look all that promising.. I'm still eyeing the Logitech G110 as a birthday present for myself, I just wish it was mechanical.

Just take the stupid fan out of the keyboard and the Challenger from Thermaltake is pretty solid. My favourite is still the Sidewinder i used for a year.

If i get some spare cash sometime im going to get the Razer BlackWidow Ultimate. Pretty epic keyboard.
