Never had one of those pencils then? The pencil is filled with little plastic bits with a bit of pencil lead in each. When one gets blunt, you take it out the front and push it into the back, and the whole row of little plastic bits pushes the next sharp one out the front. If you lose one, then you can't get the next one out...

Hey I used the paper trick for a bit, but at some point logic dictates that it is easier to replace the faulty equipment than it is fun trying to find ways of making it work.
