i7 2600 vs i7 2600k

Edit: Also I can confirm that the 2500K runs as fast as its big brother. I have 3 i5 2500K rigs and 2 i7 2600K rigs xD While gaming I can't see a difference between any of them.

ok so whats the deal with the LGA2011 chipset? is it really worth cash? i only saw 2 available ones in SA so far, both over R3k ... one is over R6k evens if i remember correctly
 
As far as I know only the 2 cpu models available locally, cheapest 5k-6k+, and the top end one in the region of 10k+. Without a heatsink and fan. It's nice, but probably not worth the price premium you pay for it. Do like the look of the boards though, but sho, pricey as well. If you go top of the range cpu, mobo and ram you are probably looking in the region of 20k just for those components.

I agree. It is not worth the money. I have seen reviews that the 2600k beats the 3930k and when you OC the 2600k to 4.3ghz it even beats the 3960X. So in my books don't waste the R6000 extra on the 2011 socket. Quad channel memory is pretty cool though!

Well I recently built one for a client.

Core i7 3930K
Gigabyte X79-UD7
G.Skill Ripjaws Z 32GB DDRIII 1866
Club 3D Radeon HD 6990

Although performance wise it makes no sense to buy Sandy Bridge E, its what the client wanted..He asked for something special. Sad thing though...The above mentioned pc will never ever play a game..it'll mainly be used for office work...LOL

Then what the hell is the point of the 6990? Is it going to make Office look super pretty? Is he running 6 screens? is he a bone head? I hope you put an SSD in there for him. Is it this guys company that he bought the computer for?

Zalman CNPS10X - Max temp was around 80C. And no I'm not bullshitting you.

4.8 Ghz seems to be the sweet spot, for the 2500K, offers good temps and all of mine seem stable at 4.8Ghz. Cooler wise I would recommend going with a high end closed loop water cooler, something like a Antec Kuhler 920 or a Corsair H100.

Yeah I just did that for benchmark runs.

I run my system at 4.8ghz 24/7. I tell you that Zalman cooler is the best air cooler I've used. Max temps at 4.8ghz is around 65C on load.
