Guild Wars still worth it after all this time?

What exactly makes the game so crap? The achievements, to get 30 points will take a very long time. Cant really play a game that long that is crap for you. Btw, gw1 was more about pvp tbh, check that out, very very well balanced pvp, skill based not gear based.

I'm thinking it put him out of his comfort zone :D

I can confirm - after playing an MMO like Aion (and WoW) for a while, getting back into the strategizing and careful skill-building that GW requires can be a little daunting. But refreshing at the same time.

I wouldn't say GW was more about the PvP either - it's very well integrated and at the same time you have a clear choice about whether or not to do it - but the game was always more about playing through the story.

30 Points will not take a very long time, anything after that its get to grinding if you have to start only now. Play the game normally, salvage materials as you complete missions, get heroes, do the HM missions, and I think you will quite easily get to 25...

Here, I checked the HOM calculator.. getting to 20 is so easy, this does not require too much farming / money. Alot of the money you could just get while completing statues (ie. missions of all campaigns in NM and HM).
Code:
Any miniature statue - 1
Rare miniature statue - 1
Either unique mini or 20 minis - 1 / 2
Any hero statue - 1
Any pet statue - 1
Any rare pet statue - 1
5 Companions - 2
Accounts linked - 3
Any Statue - 2
5 statues - 3
Any Armor - 1
Any weapon - 1
destroyer weapon - 1
oppressor weapon - 1

A lot of people think Guild Wars is crap because it is instanced... I actually like the instanced part because it allows you the freedom of doing stuff at your own pace and not having to worry that some other dick is going to steal your kills or come and murder you because it is always fun to get griefed...

You get to focus on the story of the game and its expansions and as Shadowfox said it is more strategic than your typical online game.

Builds alone will take a lot of time to get right, because of the sheer amount of skills in the game and the number of combinations that can be made with them. 8 skills, 7 normal, 1 elite. That's it! So much fun.

I agree, i have been experimenting with so many different MMO's of late and GW still tops them all in my opinion as everything is at your own pace and it is intricate and complicated and you dont have the grinding you experience with other MMO's

Do yourself a favor... go to takealot and preorder/pre purchase guild wars 2 :D

and @ Wookiman, That you Daniel?

Heck yea! i wasnt going to bother with GW2 at all untill i was convinced by a few of my colleagues. So i got the pre-purchase and its the best decision i've made so far :D

Yea i agree, i think GW 2 is going to be a turning point in the MMO genre, well hopefully

From what ive played so far in the BWEs im really impressed with. Ive stopped playing WoW outright now as well due to utter boredom with it and i havnt even got to play to cataclysm content yet due to the fact that level grinding is boring as hell

I had the same problem with WoW

In essence i think wow is a tad more "hardcore"ish than GW.
But you have to have the right mindset to sit and grind characters up to the ever expanding level cap... I hit 80 on a "private" server after a couple months of play and it was an achievement i was proud of... my Worgen on retail now has been at 71 for 6 months now and hasnt moved... my troll at 50 odd hasnt moved either...

Yea i think so, but i think it is also more suited to the people who started playing when it came out, as in GW you reach the level cap relatively quickly

Blizzard now offer you a free level up to level 80 with a Scroll of Resurrection, as well as a server move/faction change if you wish to make use of them :D Desperate times?

But WoW is keeping me occupied until GW2 so I can't hate :)

The scroll only works if you havnt played for a certain amount of time and south african residents are not valid for the scroll anyway. Trust me... ive tried.

Nope I actually used a Scroll of Resurrection myself around 2 months ago and my account is registered to SA. That used to be the case but it isn't anymore.
