Old games to play again

Don`t get me wrong, I loved the old quest games, I bought the space quest and kings quest collections, i`ve got the old kings quest compendium (a book explaining everything about king`s quest), kings quest is almost like a religion to me... I learnt English from kings quest 4

I feel like there are 0 games today with the personality and immersion that those quest games had..
I would read pages of dialogue even with my inability as a 4 year old Afrikaans kid to understand the language fully, and not be bored... and take months to finish one quest game, my primary education is more to be credited to sierra games than primary school. You might even think i have an unhealthy obsession.

But you can`t argue, when loading it up today it`s underwhelming..

maybe I have a special place in my memory for the quest games, and don`t want to spoil it with reality

Me too. Was addicted to Space Quest, Police Quest, Larry and Gabriel Knight... Never really got my hands on Kings Quest or the others as I didn't know anybody to copy it from. The days from "before" the internet and at that time, the concept of actually buying a game was unheard of at that time. Learnt a lot of English from Sierra games and played a lot without having a clue what I'm actually reading.

If I needed to play some of THOSE old games again now, I'd probably give Police Quest a go again but I must first run out of other things to do.

As for my favourites that I'll play just as likely as I would a new release:
- Star Control 2 / The Ur-Quan Masters (Windows version)
- Star Control 3
- Freelancer
- Privateer 2: The Darkening

Luckily I have a short long-term memory so even by replaying them, its like I'm entertained again for the first time :)

I think it's just honesty.

I have incredible fond memories of games like Red Alert and Syndicate and can talk and talk about them but I couldn't play them now. That's not condemnation though that's just realism. However, if you gave me those same games just with a bit of spit shine I'd probably play them.

OMW, i was sent the C&C decade boxset from my bro-in-law in London and i tried to play Red Alert cause i have many fond memories of it..........what a dream-shattering experience, fond memories should be left alone and allowed to dwell in that place in ur head that does not involve playing them again, otherwise YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!

:(

RA2 was nice though :D

Baldur's Gate II. I never tried playing Monk (apparently overpowered in late levels), so I'll have to give that a go.
Go for the eyes Boo!!!

I stopped reading when i read Freelancer.... wow, what epic memories of freelancer...

Every now and then I get the urge to pull out Magic Carpet 2
the music, the environments, the awesome classic Bullfrog gameplay

That reminds me - I better back up that CD - before I loose it ^^ (note to self: should actually check if its on abandonware yet)
The great thing about that old game, is that it actually has a 'High Res' mode which makes the game look damn good !

And for the racers out there who had the pleasure to play Ignition ! nothing beats uttlerly amazing , and well balanced cars (this one IS on abandoneware btw)

hahaha i just opened my drawer at work and saw my old Ignition CD, man that game is fun and can run on almost any Laptop!!

School Bus FTW!!

DUNE! The original DOS version. Played it as a youngling but kept dying in the dessert. lol
So, as a matter of principle, I finished it last year or so. Pretty good game, but way too easy once you figure out the game mechanics.

Anyone remember Hardwar?

I started playing Ultima 7 recently again... Man that game was absolutely epic. Wasn't it the first large open map rpg game? I want the expansion though.

I loved the Hero's Quest games (changed to Quest for Glory after Sierra got sued by a chocolate maker). would love to play a remake of that. Pick up stone, throw stone at birds nest, pick up stone, throw stone at birds nest.. hours of fun! And also Xenon 2 Megablast!

Come to think of it, who else played Commander Keen! I had all 6 episodes (the last one was a bit clunky) and Keen Dreams (which kinda sucked). I still remember the cheat - ctrl-alt-spacebar!

I remember Commander Keen... boy that was a weird game. lol. Never finished any of them.
The full version was a million times better :)

Busy playing the new Jagged Alliance... Epic!
There's a new one? How does it compare to the old one?
Oh... Shadow was my favorite character. Naturally in the early days of Counter-Strike 1.6, my name was Shadow. lol
