I will shred light on what “Really” happened, with Duke Nukem Reloaded.

In this fourth part, I will shred light on what “Really” happened, with Duke Nukem Reloaded. The journey to U.S.A was very interesting, but the result of the Gearbox presentation, was not exactly as expected. We didn’t get a clear answer of what was going to happen with Duke Nukem Reloaded, or what we were going to do next.

When I came back to Denmark, I had a meeting with my team. We quickly made a decision, that we wanted to continue working on the project.
After all, Gearbox were very impressed. So of course the future of Reloaded was secure. Right?

Unfortunately, we were wrong.

A couple of months went, and I had a very hard time communicating with Gearbox. We wanted to get an answer. What was going to happen with the project?
I didnt want my team to keep working on a project, which future wasn’t secure. Once every second week, I reached out for my contact at Gearbox Software, and addressed how important it was to get a conclusion. I had a 30+ man team, standing by.

And here I thought Mr Pitchford and team were lekker okes.

Probably scared that no Duke DLC would get sold with something like this out there, dunno :|

They can forget about future support from me. Come to show that they are nothing more than corporate greed and capitalism. I have to wonder now if that the thing they did for the fan was nothing more than a stunt to gain PR/$$$$ favor.

I have no problem with not supporting them. So far they haven't made anything I like. Got Borderlands GOTY edition on recommendation from a friend as was bored to death and then well, there is Duke Nukem Forever. Haven't played anything else from them and not interested in trying anything else.

Jeepers people love to jump on the hate train. Maybe there is more than one side to this thing?

Like this to me just seems suspicious. He had a 30 man team to work a straight remake of an old game they wouldn't be able to sell and the dude also says he spent his life saving making the game with no way to ever recoup that money regardless if the game got released or not. Top indie dev studios typically only have 2-15 developers and they make games they can sell, so 30+ people for a community project game seems excessive.

I Gearbox exercising their right to protect their property is enough to make you hate them and boycott their game then by all means, go for it.

Agee to that, but giving them the OK and then take it away is unethical. You can't say yes just to say no when clearly it was agreed upon that the could do it as a "NGO".

Seems that you yourself was quick to jump to conclusions. You did read the parts where the said it was cool for them to make it, right?

I did read it but as I said that is only their side of the sorry, there could be something more going on. Even of they did change their mind, so what it happens. I just don't see how revoking permission to release a non commercial game can really be that big of a deal.

You hail from a time which had no totalcoversions/remakes? Ever heard of doom classic TC?

Never heard of it no. It just seems that all their problems stem from using IP's owned by other companies. They'd have much less trouble and more creative freedom if they created their own unique IP.

I don't see GB posting only removing and covering up. It does not show good faith imho.

Then they are not true to their word and are lairs. The worst kind if it holds true, those who choose greed over the community.

Arg I meant doom 3 classic or Doom Classic for doom 3

This while GB episode stinks of so many TCs I've seen gone down the tubes due to the original owning house being envious and over protective. Where I hail from modding, conversion and remakes actually was big and for the greater good. Nowadays it's sadly just about the dollor bill.

I really have to think if I would not mind in total source leak for GB to "teach a lesson". Still in two minds of that. If the story really holds true as it is, then truly they are nothing more than money grabbing house which is just plainly disgusting.

They've yet to come out with a press release. So far as I've said they've only gone the muzzle route.
