MyGaming Disqus comments ranking system unveiled

Hi everyone,

As you may have noticed, we are running the Disqus ranking system, which is currently a 'beta' feature of Disqus.

It basically rewards loyal posters with a snazzy rank to show just how awesome they are for being a part of the MyGaming community.

The ranks are outlined below; I'm keeping it simple for now as the ranking system is still in beta, but in future we can make it a bit more elaborate.

To reach these ranks, there are some algorithms in place that weight the type of contribution you make to the MyGaming comments.

The weighting I have set is outlined below. Suggestions and feedback welcome (but don't expect me to rush off and make changes immediately )

I hope this encourages everyone to make some more comments on the front page.

Is this going to have the same issue as the previous system where people can keep clearing their browser cache to upvote themselves again?

You're missing the slider for "Your name is Shadowfox" with the setting on important.

I am disappoint

In all honesty though - why not bump up the importance of posting longer comments, and in terms of importance put it on the same level as just posting a comment.

Before you end up with a bunch of people just posting "First!!"

I suppose it is open to abuse; some will always find a way. However, it only rewards registered and approved commenters. I guess one could create multiple accounts and upvote their primary one if they really care about the ranking that much. However, as you cna see from the weighting, leaving comments and replies is more rewarding than giving and receiving likes.

Don't ask me how Disqus works this out, they don't share that info. I assume there is some sort of algorithm that figures it all out. As stated, it's still in beta so i presume they are still tweaking it themselves.

The idea is to encourage people to leave comments on the news articles, so rewarding the first post is a good way to get the ball rolling I think.

Longer comments doesn't necessarily mean quality comments, so I don't want people trying to post an opus of drivel just to move up the ranks.

You know people, where there's a ranking/reputation system involved, they'll attempt to cheat it. It's just like those morons who cheat in games so they can see their names atop the leaderboards.
