Entering comps just to give prizes to non-MyG members

I've noticed this happening all the more often recently where people enter comps and say they want to win so they can give the prize to someone else. Isn't this a bit unfair?

The comps are run for MyG members. If you, as a MyG member, don't have need for a prize, skip the competition and allow other MyG members a fair chance at winning.

I dunno, but entering a competition run for members with the intent of giving the prize to a non-member sounds rather dickish to me. If your brother/sister/spouse/boyfriend/friend/girlfriend needs the prize, have them sign up on the site and enter the competition.

If they didn't say anything, you wouldn't know. I don't believe you can dictate to a winner what they can or can't do with the prize ;)

That's like saying that if you win a prize you're not allowed to give it away or sell it.

Just because your motives for winning are different to someone else's it doesn't make them any less deserving.

Yes, you can't, but I just feel that it's sort of a dick thing to do.

If competitions come around for console games/accessories I don't enter because I don't have a console. I have a few friends who have consoles and could use the prize, but they're not MyGaming members, so it's more fair if I abstain and give a fellow MyG member a chance to win something. I just consider it common courtesy.

I entered the Saints Row 3 competitions, but I only want the bobblehead. If I win it, I'll just let another MyG member have the game, like I did with DiRt 3 last year when I didn't have need for it.

Dan I think I'll give you the prize. How does the head of a goat sound?? :p

Graal - I believe in being honest with what I want to do with the prize. My brother is ironically a member here, but he never has a chance in the comps - he tends to miss out on them. IF I win by any small chance, I will give him the case simply because I just replaced mine - with his help and its something I know he wants but neither of us can afford it at this moment. If I can do something like that to make his day - WTH not?

They can do what they want with the prize, if they want to give it to the homeless guy in the alley behind the kfc let them. Why is it unfair what they do with the prize. Is it only unfair if you don't win it?

The PS3 I won a while back on MyG is stuffed. Flashing red LED, Don't have the invoice / slip for this any more so it's just been standing there gathering dust for ages. I will gladly give out the box it came in for free on a MyG comp. The Unit itself is serving its purpose nicely keeping my door open.

Eh, maybe I just try to be too much of a nice guy at times.

Nothing is stopping anyone from doing whatever they want with the prize, I just don't like the idea of someone who isn't a member of the group the competition is aimed at getting it. As you'll notice from my DiRt3 giveaway last year, a member entered saying he wanted to give the code to a friend of his if he won, and I denied his entry because the original competition was for MyG members. :p

Why would I consider it unfair if I don't win? I won a R2,5k graphics card from MyGaming last year. I would have to be a moron to consider something as being unfair only if I don't win.

Lol! Also, didn't anyone tell you a PS3 isn't designed to be used as a trampoline?

Winning for someone else is a grand and knobel thing but I think you're just screwing yourself in the end as the powers of randomeness are less likely to choose you again.
So the one time you will ever win, you get something you dont want for someone else, yet you are the one who puts all the effort into the forum.

Its not dickish or unfair. its just dumb :D but at the same time............ heart warming.

Maybe you should give the box to the homeless guy in the alley behind KFC.:p

I have noticed on the competition threads that are people entering competitions with only one post, which is great since that means we are getting new members, but I don't think they deserve prizes since some of them enter the competition, wait for the next competition and enter hoping they win. I suggest using the old weekly giveaway system: post 10 times within the week. It increases forum activity and protects competitions from these... I don't know what to call them
